The rugged seacoast, dense forests and varied terrain of the Pacific Northwest permeate the work of Franka Palek, who has spent the greater part of her life in Washington and Oregon. A self-taught artist, she paints primarily in an abstract mode, developing a rich symbolic vocabulary based on evocative combinations of color.
An inventive and curious artist, Palek experiments frequently with new techniques and recently has expanded her repertoire to include hand-cut stencil work. She is committed to her craft, making time every day to create in her Seattle studio. Ever drawn to the natural world, she balances her artistic pursuits with tending to the chores of her farmland home and caring for her family and a menagerie of pets.
