Currently working and living in the Chicago area, Jodie Richter is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she earned both Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees. Working in a variety of media, she is drawn to works on paper, especially watercolor painting and hand-leafing.
In the spirit of American Modernist artists, Richter keeps a close watch on nature, intent on capturing the essence of its glorious shapes and moods. For her, the act of creating depends as much upon what she’s observing as her guiding vision. “I never feel completely in or out of control. I push, and the external world pushes back. We dance,” she explains. Her work is exhibited widely throughout the Chicago area and at her own gallery in Highland Park, Illinois.
