Whether working with ceramic traditions of the Peruvian Andes, weaving with artisans in Guatemala or exploring felt making in Kyrgyzstan, Mimi Robinson has forged collaborations with artisan communities all over the world. Through her multidisciplinary design firm, Mimi Robinson Design, she has established a reputation for designs that transform cultural traditions, historical artifacts and natural materials into fresh, relevant concepts.
Raised by a creative family that still paints together, Robinson takes great pleasure engaging in the creative process. “I love the hand-eye connection, putting pencil to paper; there is something immediate about it that’s deeply satisfying. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, she has lectured on design, craft and artisan communities at her alma mater as well as at the California College of the Arts. Robinson is also the author of several books, including a forthcoming book on color due out in 2015.View more artists and designers.
