Defining her style as folk pop, Montreal-based designer Sabina Gibson is a master of soft sculpture. Her charming plush animals are miniature works of imagination that evolve from “taking a familiar animal form or shape and transforming it into a colorful and delightful character.”
As founder of Mount Royal Mint, Gibson is inspired by materials and colors, and loves to dress up and embellish her creatures with fun, colorful appliqués and detailed embroidery. This process of “adding the finishing details and little touches of color that define each character is what inspires me the most.” Gibson’s home and studio are housed in a 100-year-old textile factory where ancient sewing needles and rivets remain in the floor boards. Inspired by the spirit of this space, Gibson observes, “I like that we continue with the tradition by creating here.”View more artists and designers.
