The Story

Mid-century meets this century in an executive, statement desk rich in lustrous walnut and brushed stainless steel. Handcrafted by a small woodworking company in Wisconsin, Clybourn is solid and substantial, yet looks light and lithe considering its scale and materials. A thick, solid American walnut top floats above and beyond on four brushed stainless steel supports—a signature design element with a functional bonus of storage for a keyboard or laptop on an integrated slide-out shelf. Striking symmetry suspends walnut veneered cases with mitered corners—two storage drawers stack opposite one legal-letter file with brushed aluminum pulls. Squared stainless steel sled legs appear to "continue" under the floating desktop. Striking from all angles, a finished back serves as a modesty panel and allows the piece to work mid-room in true executive fashion. Enamored with American walnut, only a dark Danish oil finish and a low-sheen satin wax topcoat are used to bring out the wood's inherent beauty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful Desk with Inadequate Finish I purchased this desk and took delivery of it on 12/5/14. I love the design and construction of the desk. However, the wood has next to no finish on it, leaving it wide open to absorb anything that touches it. I've attached a photo of a water spot that was in contact with the surface for maybe 15 seconds before I noticed it. The care instructions say to use a furniture wax. It does not seem right that I should need to wax the desk less than a week after receiving it. My company does commercial wood finishing so I will probably end up sanding the top down and applying some sort of varnish that can provide a wear surface. Just beware that the wood is extremely porous and will show any sort of water mark or scratch. I did not contact C&B because I'm not sure what they could do about it. Replacing the desk would not help as I believe this is the way the finish is intended to be. I can solve the issue myself, but anyone thinking of purchasing this desk should consider a glass top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful desk We purchased this desk about a month ago. It's very high quality and I love it. It has ample surface area for room to work while still having a computer on desk and other accessories. It's definitely a piece we will have for many many years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece of furniture I have been looking for a beautiful, functional desk that will last forever and this is it. I think I'm going to have a piece of glass cut for the top so that I don't have to worry about water marks or scratches. Delivery folks had to take the legs off to get it into my office, but it didn't seem like a big problem. I love the keyboard tray so my arms can rest lower while I type. The wood is beautiful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really gorgeous desk Having a good work-at-home environment is really important to me. Having something wood and solid is also a must have, I can't stand those cheaper metal or plastic desks. My mother balked at me buying a desk that costs $2000, but when she saw it she was able to understand why I needed it.The desk is beautiful. It has a mix of old world wood construction with a touch of contemporary style. Unlike other wood desks, the corners and edges are rounded, not sharp, which feels lovely. I can rest my arms while typing and write with comfort on this desk. I fit two computers (27" imac and a 23" screen for my PC) on this desk with ease and plenty of space to write / place my stacks of whatever / ipad / laptop remains.Note: The right side is a standard file cabinet size. It does not come with fittings for a file cabinet, so you'll have to buy it from staples. Also, this desk is heavy as it should be. It will be delivered already assembled, and just barely manages to fit through a standard door frame. It is awkward if there are a lot of angles to take into the room you want to place it in. The delivery men had to take off one of my doorsto be able to get the desk into my home office space. (They put it back on).My only complaint is that it does not have a matching side desk / file cabinet like the Kendell desk does. That would have been convenient to put my printer / shredder on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The clybourn desk is a work of art! I purchased the clybourn desk after seeing it in person in the Cincinnati Crate and Barrel. Had to save up for it but it was so worth it. The craftmanship is amazing and the walnut is beautiful. It fits perfectly with the style of my mid-century modern ranch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Desk The issue noted in the previous review about the cutout not being stained is true. However, I use it pushed against a wall, so does not matter to me. The desk is visually stunning, functional, and well made. I am VERY pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I needed I bought this a few months ago and I simply love it. Sturdy, compartments are enough for variety of papers and gadgets and the space is enough to write on, have computer, screen and printer while looking stylish too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Desk! I've purchased this desk appx 8 months ago and have loved it! It is very high quality, very sturdy and looks great. The drawers sliding mechanism is very smooth and are very deep to hold lots of stuff. I have had no issues with this desk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful wood! I bought this desk about a year ago and I love it. The wood is soft and beautiful. The drawers pull smoothly. Unfortunately, the keyboard tray is too low for me (I have this issue with all desks, so I assume it's probably fine for most) so I've had to raise the desk up on blocks in order to get it into an ergonomic position.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish and Solidly Built I bought this desk to replace a folding table that had been my de facto desk for years, so can't really say anything truly negative about it, relatively speaking. The desk is solidly built, really sturdy. The wood has a beautiful finish. I love the area under the desktop as hidden storage to get papers out of my way when I need to reclaim some of my workspace.I will say that I was surprised -- my own fault really -- to find the desk a couple of inches higher than what I was used to. Seems that in order to accommodate the keyboard tray -- a key feature -- C&B needed to raise up the desktop. The problem for me is that I don't use the keyboard tray because it requires me to push back from the desk in order to pull the drawer out, but then my computer is too far away. If I moved the computer closer so I could better see the screen, then I'd be wasting a ton of desktop space behind the computer. The compromise has been to simply ignore the keyboard tray and use my keyboard on the desktop with my computer at a normal viewing distance from the front desk edge. Seems a shame to completely blow off the keyboard tray since that's what attracted me to the desk in the first place, but it is what it is. My consolations lie in the under-desktop storage and the fact that this is one looker of a desk.
