Functional, Coordinates with Mobility Caddy
This is an attractive, no-frills lapdesk that's great for smaller laptops and tablet devices. It's also a nice size for use as a writing desk, assuming you have a notepad with a stiff back to provide a smooth writing surface. When I use my 17" gaming laptop with my Logitech speaker/cooling fan lapdesk I also own, I still use the Crate & Barrel lapdesk by my side as a mousing surface.
I love the "felted wool" aesthetic but find the look of waxed canvas does nothing for me. It isn't the deep, evenly saturated black (or perfectly even surface) I expected based on the web site photo (I don't have access to a physical store) and I wish they'd used leather, bamboo or wood instead, which would also have made for a nicer writing surface. The waxed canvas surface also arrived with a good-sized scuff, but as a purely cosmetic issue it wasn't worth the hassle of an exchange - plus I can't see it when when I'm actually USING the lapdesk, anyway.
I bought this with the coordinating Mobility Caddy (which I love) when they both went on sale. At full retail, I think this lapdesk is rather pricey after shipping and sales tax, but on sale it is definitely worth the money - especially if you have the coordinating Mobility Caddy, which it tucks nicely into. The lapdesk’s carry handle makes it simple to remove from the caddy.
I just bought a new iPad and am considering a Grove bamboo case which optionally comes with a real felted wool cover. I keep thinking that this lapdesk and the Mobility Caddy would look fabulous with it - they should cross-promote!

great little desk
I needed one of these for my new iPad and looked all over. Couldn't believe the prices on these. Lucky for me my web search took me to C&B, (which I love anyway) and to this desk on clearance. It's not huge (15"), but more than big enough for my iPad. Best of all even with standard shipping, I got it the very next day!!! Great service. I'm hoping the caddy it fits into will come down in price, even on sale it's kind of pricey.
