The Story

Our "Italian Cooking Essentials" collection from famed chef and restaurateur Mario Batali expands with Dutch Ovens, Bistro Pan and a Soup Pot in red. Each enameled cast iron piece ensures exceptional heat retention and even heating without hot spots. Bistro pan ensures superior low-heat cooking and exceptional heat retention. Oven or stovetop, this versatile pan is ideal for braising, one-pot meals, stocks and sauces, and more. Close-fitting bistro pan lid traps moisture; large handle makes for easy stove-to-table transport. Dutch Ovens are designed for low-heat cooking, stewing and braising. Close-fitting lids with stainless knobs have spikes on the interior for continuous, natural basting (see additional photos). Three-quart soup pot is perfect for soups, stews, stocks and larger vegetables.

Mario Batali Red Bistro Pan/Dutch Ovens/Soup Pot is rated 4.4062 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! The dutch oven is perfect. I use it for pasta, soup, stew, casserole, chicken, etc. It's great for stove top and oven use..and I put it in the refrigerator for left overs. It's a great size for a family and washes very easily. I love it! I just bought another one for a wedding gift for my cousin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pot! I have two of these dutch ovens, the 6 quart round and the 6 quart oval. I use them both all the time, mostly for braising recipes. I know I can rely on the thickness of the pan to ensure the food does not burn, even though it often cooks in the oven or stove top for hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from M Batali Oval Dutch Oven I thoroughly researched a number of like products and happened to see this dutch oven when visiting a local Crate and Barrel. It was exactly the size and color I wanted and the price was within the range I wanted to pay.I've used the product and was extremely pleased. It is beautiful so fits my need to serve directly from the stove and the roast I cooked was perfectly done. I would certainly recommend it and look forward to using it in the coming winter months. This was a great purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wedding Gift We received this dutch oven as a wedding gift and use it all the time. It is great for cooking soups and stews. It is one of my favorite gifts that we received.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Size and Depth Keep Oven Splatter To A Minimum As a novice cook, I wanted to invest in a dutch oven for braising. Haven't braised anything but have been using it to grill pork chops. Delighted to find it cut down on splatter keeping my oven cleanup to a minimum. Worth the investment for that alone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Pan I absolutely LOVE this pan. I have several of the Mario Batali enameled cast iron cookware pieces and I would buy them all if I could. This pan is so useful for so many cooking techniques. I love to braise in it and it comes in handy whenever I am making pastas, curries, rice dishes, and so much more. It is also beautiful and can go from kitchen to table easily. I would buy this pan over and over again, I love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Bad I've had this pan for two months. It's been very functional, but already has a large chip on the handle. I'm not even sure how it happened--maybe I bumped it with the heavy lid. The inside seems to be holding up, but this won't be an heirloom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to pan! I LOVE this pan! I love cooking and I cook for my family of 5 every day (mostly from scratch). I love how it has a big surface area and I don't need to cook in batches. And it makes a lot of food at once so I usuaully have leftovers for lunch next day. I've made pasta sauces, casseroles, stews, chicken pot pie, curries, paella, biryani rice, carmelized onions and more! It's also a beutiful pan that you can serve directly from on the table top! Cleaning is also pretty easy - even when I scorched my rice in it (I totally forgot about it and walked away from the kitchen!), I just had to soak the bottom of the pan then cleaned it with baking soda and vinegar with a soft sponge. One thing you may want to know, though, is that this is a super HEAVY pan and you definitely need two hands to lift it. My mother in law says it's not for her because of the weight. The lid is very heavy, too, and it creates such a tight seal when it's on the pan that I didn't realize my rice was burning untill I lifted the lid!. It's also a big pan so storage can be a problem if you have a small kitchen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make me smile! I now have the Red Bistro Pan to go with my other Mario Batali Enameled Cast Iron Cookware, and it makes me smile just to see it! The design lines are wonderful, the look timeless and elegant. As with my other enameled cast iron, it heats evenly and cleans up well. Great for stews and large sauce recipes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, great value We have owned ours since 2008 and use it 3-4 times per month. After 5 years of use it has held up really well. Heats quickly and evenly and performs great for searing or braising, oven or stove top. The interior bottom will darken with use (but that's going to happen to any piece you actually cook with). I always wash mine by hand but the enamel coating makes for very easy cleanup. The handles have chipped in a few spots, but this is just cosmetic and doesn't interfere with function at all. It's a great dutch oven at a very good price. Love it so much I plan to buy the 6 quart one now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Gift I think everyone who cooks should own a dutch oven this size, unfortunately the Le Creuset models are a bit expensive. This product works just as well and it's half the price. I totally recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most practical purchase ever My husband and I love our Dutch oven! We use it all the time-just throw in meat, vegetables, and some seasonings and dinner is ready to go. You absolutely do not need a cookbook or recipes to use and it is great for when you don't plan ahead to use a crockpot, but don't want to spend most of your evening preparing a meal. With leftovers, we even just throw the whole Dutch oven into the fridge and they keep fine and are easy to reheat later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good I've been wanting to replace the old Dutch oven that we've been using. Other brands are so expensive so when my mother in law gave me a C&B gift card, I didn't think twice, this is what I'm going to buy with that gift. It arrived boxed very carefully. Used it the first time for pot roast. Cooks very well. I hand wash it and very easy to clean. It stained after first time use but that's ok. I don't want to scrub it too much, it may damage the coating other than that, very good piece for your kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Shower GIft My friend had this on her wedding shower registry, and now I use it as much as her! Looks great in the kitchen and is a quality piece. Be careful shipping this to where it has to be carried, it is REALLY heavy. Great buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! My mother-in-law got this for me for Christmas, At first I was skeptical thinking was more about form then function, but now I absolutely love it.
