Magnificent but scary
This is a great piece of furniture that comes with a sting in its tail. The table you see in the shop may look very different from the table that arrives at your door. That's both the beauty and the peril of the untreated teak that lends the piece its unique character. The "natural variations" they mention in the description above can be quite dramatic, and the only reason I haven't given the table five stars - it deserves them in just about every other way - is that you can't be sure you're going to like the particular combination of knots, whirls and other blemishes that come with your order.
It's a bit of a gamble, and when our table was first set up (very quickly and efficiently by the delivery crew), we had a bit of a wobble - some of the surface discolouring was much more pronounced than we had remembered from the shop. But it was the perfect size for the room, beautifully made, and exactly the kind of rustic yet modern look we were seeking.
So we decided to give it a couple of days, and sure enough, our memory of the shop version faded and we fell in love with the soft glow and unique patterning of our new table. We applied a teak protector (which the table definitely needs to combat liquid stains), and we now feel no trace of doubt that we made the right decision. Just be prepared for a possible surprise the day yours arrives....

Love this table
We bought the table and bench and love it! It arrived a little darker when it was delivered but the table has lightened up over the last 5 months since we've had it. We were aware through all the feedback that the table marks up easily. We bought a light wax and fine steel wool, both recommended by the store. Whenever we have a cup mark or water mark, we simply take the fine steel wool and rub the table gently and it looks great! We have young children in the home and the table gets a good beating but it still looks great!

We bought this to go in our "beach themed" dining room. It's beautiful! It's casual and elegant!! We love it!

I am in love...with my new Dining Room!
I have 3 small children and wanted a table that would hold up to their everyday torture. I saw this table in the store and loved it but the sales person said they did not recommend this table for someone with children because it stains very easily. Well after going home and reading every review on this website I realized the people who bought something to protect it were the happiest. I bought Golden Care Teak Shield and applied 2 coats and now when something is spilled on the table it beads up and does not soak into the table. The table did not change colors and I cannot even tell something is on it.
I bought the buffet, table, bench and 3 chocolate folio chairs (which look really awesome with the table). It looks darker than the one in the store which was actually a pleasant surprise.
So far I am extremely happy with this purchase and the best part is if my children do find a way to stain it (and I am sure they will) all I have to do is sand it and it will look brand new.

versatile table
We change our minds on style all the time. So, in looking for a long-lasting dining table, we needed something that was versatile and would pair well with modern or traditional. The Pacifica is amazing! It's the perfect base piece but isn't plain by any means. It makes a beautiful statement in our dining room. It does mark up easily, however, that doesn't bother us. When we saw the first outline of a hot plate, our first instinct was to clean it, but we decided we liked the look of it. Especially now that there's a lot of marks, it adds character and makes it feel more "homey."

Amazingly Beautiful
Absolutely love this table. Whether we have company of 10, or just the 2 of us, meals are always pleasant at this gorgeous table. The construction is incredibly sturdy, the teak wood has a beautiful grain and coloring, and the style goes with any decor. We purchased the matching bench, as well as 5 leather folio chairs in oyster color to complement the table and we couldn't be more pleased. The neutral color of the wood lends itself to any color scheme. Totally happy with our purchase, price, quality and style of this table.

Best Table Ever
We were looking at the Big Sur, but when we saw the Pacifica in store, we couldn't go with anything else. Nice modern lines, minimalist profile, but great farmhouse presence. Everyone that has come by has asked about our table. We also brought the matching bench.

Lifetime table
We love this table. We've had it for about a year. We have two small children and they really know how to test it out. When it needs a bit of extra care, we have used fine steel wool to sand out any food stains or nicks and 99% teak oil. It cleans up so beautifully.

love this table !!!
My grandmother bought this table for me as a wedding gift and I absolutely love it! Every time someone walks in my house, they compliment me on how gorgeous the table is. I love the teak wood, how rustic yet formal it is; it fits well in my dining room alongside my woodstove! She also bought me the Captiva Seaside White chairs and the Pacifica bench to go with it, and it looks amazing together! As far as the other reviews with care, as long as any spills are wiped up immediately, it keeps its wonderful character. Also, if you ask in the Crate & Barrel store, they have protector that you can purchase specifically, or there are instructions that come with it that tell you how to maintain it. I would definitely recommend this table to anyone looking to purchase it! It has been a wonderful addition to my home!

More Maintenance but More Style
This table looks great-- we've had it a couple of years and it ages well. Makes a statement. What is difficult is that it's not very forgiving with water marks from glasses, etc. You must buy the recommended wax, which helps protect the wood, but must be applied somewhat regularly. We have two children so "being careful" with a big sturdy table seems odd, and impractical. Still, I think it's worth the extra effort of rubbing out those water rings, and waxing often, because it's got a great look and seems that it will last forever.

Timeless
Looked all over for a dinning table during fall '10, and was not going to settle for veneered or engineered wood. Always thought the Pacifica was too expensive, but compared to what is out there this is great quality and value. Nice warm color to match just about any decor. An heirloom piece. Only wished similar products would be made for the living room.

Beautiful Table
This table looks stunning - in any room setting. It blends well with a semi-formal, modern, or contemporary setting. It does require regular maintenance (treating w/ oil) to protect and maintain the beautiful finish. We got the matching bench on 1 side and the Sonata side chairs.

great table
I got this table a year ago and I love it. As everyone else has commented, it is extremely easy to stain and mark, and after few months of scrubbing my table daily I got some clear rub on matt poly and finished it. The final result was fantastic and I love love love it. I was concerned that the polish would darken the wood but it only made it more beautiful, not darker. The wood is extremely strong and will not dent or mark, and my kids have certainly tried!

i like it!
We were looking for a table slightly longer than this, but we've realized that we really only need a longer table for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We've already hosted a couple dinner parties and have been very satisfied with the size. It sits 8 very comfortably, but I think you could squeeze 10 around the table if you have skinny chairs (and skinny guests!). It's true that water marks show up easily, but we figure we will sand it down after some years pass if it gets too stained. That's the beauty of buying a real wood table. I love the combined look of the modern table with the nice teak color.

Happy Purchase!
I have had this table for about a year now. I do absolutely love the look of the table. I paired it with red leather chairs and it looks great. It does take alot of sanding and polishing because it is not finished. All watermarks, etc need to be sanded and polished. Yet I knew that would be the case before I bought it because it is an unfinished wood. So as long as you are willing to keep up with it it is a great buy!

I agree whole heartedly with the other reviews regarding how easily this table is stained. If you want a worn effect then this table is perfect, otherwise it's really annoying. Also, my cleaning lady used pledge or some sort of wood cleaner on the top, which changed the color to a much darker brown that wasn't easily sandpapered away, so I then had to stain the rest of the table to match.

Nice Table
Teak wood looks great - have received a number of compliments from friends and family. Only complaint has to do with impact of anything wet on the table - minor issue that wouldn't be as big of a deal had I known what would happen going in. Extremely sturdy, really enjoying it...

High-Maintenance (but beautiful) Unfinished Wood
When it was delivered to my apartment, I was a bit surprised how truly unfinished this table is. Also it was much lighter than the one that I saw at the C&B store. I tried a wax finish (because that's what the in-store model seemed to have), but ended up scrubbing it off because the wood is much smoother and softer when it's bare.
Since the table is unfinished, it easily gets little grease spots and scratches and heat marks. At first I hated these and would scrub them off with silver polish (a light abrasive). Now I think they add character and make it look more loved and rustic. Overall it's a little more maintenance than I was expecting, but it's so beautiful that I think it's worth the trouble.
It's an enormous table, comfortably seating 10 people or a good-sized sewing project. It looks great in a large room with high ceilings (we live in an loft). But it would probably look strange in a normal-sized dining room.
