The Story

The familiar lines of classic Italian design reinvented with comfort and value in mind. At a glance, you notice the generous, clean Parsons-style lines and fine quality leather in a deep ebony. Up close, it's the small details that make the big difference: solid welded steel frame, full wrapping in aniline-dyed leather with mitered corners, and seat and leg with full flange seaming. A thick, sculpted leg supports the comfortable, foam-cushioned seat. Chip-resistant paint coats the grooved steel footrest providing traction, durability and ease of care.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look Good and are durable I have these in 2 of my houses .I have the chairs, the backless bar stools and the 30 inch bar stools and I'm ordering 3 more today! I use leather wipes on them and still look new.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Bad leather. Leather on the bar stools started cracking on the top corners of the stool. Then in a years time on the seat area. I would have thought that they would have lasted longer then a year. Poor quality of leather

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed customer Bought these counter stools six years ago, today all three have cracked on each corner of the back. I would definitely not recommend. We have no children at home and the stools have not been misused...actually they don't get a lot of use. So disappointed as they are not inexpensive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A real disappointment: Poor quality contstruction My husband and I fell in love with these stools. We swallowed hard at the price, but in the end we knew we'd enjoy having them for many years so we purchased four. It's now five years later and they're a mess. Inside the leather is a metal framework but it's not padded. The leather is in direct contact with the frame, which has resulted in ugly cracks on the top corner of every chair back. My husband and I have no children at home, so it's not as if these expensive stools have been abused. They're just a really bad design in terms of the way they're constructed. They look nice hen new but don't expect them to last. Attached photo shows one of the cracked corners from the top looking down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't wear well We were very happy with these stools at first but as time went on the "leather" (we thought it was leather) began to disintegrate and get a gummy texture. The chairs now look terrible and I highly recommend you choose a different product. Very disappointed in c&b as their products should be higher quality than this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from problem with the leather Have had these chairs for four years now and on one of the chair the leather has simply started to disintegrate. It looks as if someone spilled acid on it though that did not happen. The leather got dark and kind of sticky and the area affected keeps spreading. We've been told it would be more expensive to recover but I'm hesitant to replace if this could happen again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Chairs, but I just purchased 4 of these chairs and 2 backless stools to sit around my Parsons style kitchen table. They look the part with nice simple lines which complement the simple marble table. As far as the "leather" goes, these Folio chairs are constructed with a bonded leather product, not genuine (full grain) leather. Bonded leather is the particle board of the leather world. According to Maria Yee, the manufacturer of these chairs, the bonded leather is described as containing 65% leather fibers: “our polished bonded leather rivals the look and feel of quality full grain vegetable-tanned leather. However, the polished bonded leather offers a much better user experience for heavily used seating.” The manufacturer obviously feels their bonded leather is durable and appropriate for daily use. After reading some of the reviews here I must say that I am a bit worried I will not have a “better user experience”!I'm a little disappointed that C&B's overview description of these chairs describes the leather as a “fine quality leather”. It's not until you look in the details box that you find it is bonded leather, a composite leather product. It didn't stop me from buying the chairs, but I do find them a bit over priced. The very similar Maria Yee “Madrid” stool, with a lower back, sold by a competitor sells for $60 less. To be fair, the competitor makes no mention that the “leather” is “bonded leather” in their description at all. With a bit of persuading and some hemming and hawing in the C&B store, I was offered a 10% discount on my purchase which closed the gap a bit on the price difference. Unlike the competitor's chairs I can pick-up my C&B order locally and avoid a shipping fee which made the cost identical.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worthy of price I also bought 4 of these chairs in 2008 and last year I noticed a small hole in the seat of one. Over time it progressed and the entire seat cover (is this really leather?) has now peeled off of the chair. Two others have same problem. They look hideous and I am embarrassed to have anyone sit on them. I am trying to search for covers but I will probably have to have them re-upholstered at a large additional expense. Looked great in the beginning, but not built for actual use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Chairs are falling apart I bought 4 bar stools in April of 2008. By 2010 the frame started ripping through the leather on 2 of the chairs. One chair has 2 inch rips on the corners of the (top) back of the chair. The other chair isn't as bad but is getting there. For the price I would have thought the chairs would have lasted more than 2 years! We do use them everyday, but still, they weren't cheap and did look like they were sturdy. If you are going to use them everyday, I wouldn't buy them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THESE CHAIRS. These counter-height chairs are expensive, so I had to make sure they were ergonomically comfortable, durable, and looked/felt great. I did some heavy duty internet and store research, sitting, slumping, dragging each chair. After much trepidations, I am happy I decided to buy these chairs -- and not go for the imitations. My family sit at the counter for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; they won't sit at the dinner table anymore. I love these chairs. (Surprisingly, these chairs fit well in my 100 year old Edwdardian home.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big disappointment My husband and I loved these Ebony Leather Barstools....we bought them 4 years ago. In the past year or year and a half the leather had begun to look deeply scratched and to deteriorate. They were finally looking so bad that we took one to to a local leather worker to recover. When he took the original "leather" off to make a pattern, he discovered that it is not even leather! It is a sort of fiberous composite. We loved the barstools but we are extremely disappointed in the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality We bought 4 of these and 2 backless stools to go with the Halo table and to use at our bar. They are very sturdy and well made using a really good quality leather. We love contemporary styling and these certainly fit the bill.
