Belmont White Kitchen Island is rated 4.6273 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good piece, bad assembly The island has been very satisfying for day-to-day use, and its size and layout are perfect for our mid-sized apartment's kitchen. However, assembly was a nightmare.Much of the hardware is made from soft metal, making the screws easy to strip. The cam shafts in the piece we bought were poorly tapped and far too tight. And there's one step of the assembly, which Crate & Barrel could have worked around with a little more thought, that requires using an allen wrench with almost no clearance. The design of this piece for aesthetics and day-to-day use is great, but the manufacturing quality and assembly process leave much to be desired.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good idea but poor quality We have owned this Belmont Island for one year. The box of parts for the island was shipped to us in a single box. The package was extremely heavy, requiring 2 strong people to bring inside. Many parts in our shipment were defective (bad paint job on doors) or damaged (smashed countertop). However, Crate and Barrel customer service was great about sending replacement parts to us. After a total of 4 deliveries, we were able to get a complete set of proper parts to assemble. As stated in other reviews, the Belmont Island is difficult to put together and requires tightening interior screws that are difficult to reach without special tools. We used the provided wooden feet instead of the provided wheels because we don't move the island around. The island is impressive to visitors and is very useful in providing storage and extra counter space. However, after owning it for 1 year, the quality is unfortunately not what we had hoped. The wood has split (photos attached) in a few places in the base, leaving small but ugly cracks in the paint. The butcher-block counter surface has also begun to split. My guess is that the wood was not dried properly during manufacture, or that the glue used to engineer the base and counter pieces is faulty. For the price, I would have expected the island to be more durable. We will have to replace this product sometime soon in the future. Although I would order from Crate & Barrel again because of their excellent customer service, I would not recommend this particular product because of the poor durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great island, not too bad putting together I just assembled this yesterday and love it for my kitchen- adds counter space and storage. I looked at various other islands from different places, which were less money- but the quality was so much better with this one. I like how easy it is to lift up/ put down the island top. As far as assembly, I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews- but the directions were very easy to follow and it took my husband (not the handiest guy in the world) and my dad about 1.5 hours to put together. One thing I don't really like is that only 2 of the 4 wheels have locks, so the island still moves when it is locked. Also, 100$ shipping is a lot, and it cannot be delivered to the store for pick up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! I have been looking for a quality and affordable kitchen island for quite some time. This one is perfect. I purchased the white island and it looks beautiful in my kitchen. It is even nicer than I expected as I ordered thru the catalog and could only judge by picture and description. The island is really heavy, sturdy and well made. The solid wood top is high quality and looks much more expensive than the price. I would highly recommend this island to anyone!!! It took about two hours to asssemble but was not too difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good purchase Looks good, and construction quality seems good. It's a good size too -- not too big, not too small. Some additional information for people:1. It does not come assembled, even if C&B ships it to you.2. It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes for an *experienced* person to assemble it alone. I hired someone for $67 to assemble it for me.3. The wheels do have locks on them.4. It does have a bit of a "fresh paint" smell, but I assume that'll wear off soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with it Just a couple of comments for consideration. The box was heavy. Disappointed to see so much styrofoam but it was packaged well. Had a bit of damage: a scuff on the front of the island. It would be REALLY nice to have had 1-2 extra post and cam fasteners as one broke during assembly and they are a specialized item. We couldn't go to our supplies and replace it.I am pleased that stationary feet were included; gives the island a more permanent look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!!! I recently redesigned my kitchen without an island. I was flipping through the Crate & Barrel catalog and this Kitchen Island was made for my kitchen, right down to the hardware. I put it together pretty easily myself and am amazed at how nicely made the pieces are. The piece is actually extremely solid. I wish I could use the top as a cutting board, but other than that it is an extremely good purchase for me. I do like the fact that I was able to choose between castors and legs. Versatile. Completed my kitchen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best addition to my kitchen I'm in the military and move a lot; a few times, the homes I've lived in don't have a lot of kitchen preparation space nor storage. Despite all the reviews stating the difficulty in assembling the island, I went ahead a purchased one. True, it took a while to put together, but the functionality of the piece for me was well worth the effort. I'm in an apartment now with a kitchen that has little counter space and storage, and having this island has made a huge difference in the functionality of my kitchen. Plus, with the aluminum kitchen barstools, it's now the perfect hangout space for when I have a couple friends over. It's also the perfect standing height for me to do some work on my laptop while fixing myself a meal. Maybe C&B should look into providing a service for customers to have someone come to the house to assemble extra-difficult items for an additional cost. It would be a shame for someone to miss out on having this wonderful, useful piece because they were intimidated by the difficulty of putting it together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has some design issues First: This couldn't be shipped to my local store for pick-up, it had to come to my house by carrier. It comes flat in a box and needs to be put together by someone with at least average skills. For $100 to ship, it should have already been assembled!! Get a mallot, electric screwdriver and needle nose pliers. The Bad: I have experience putting together this type of furniture (and hate it). It took me over 2 hours. You will need a second person to help with some parts. TONS of packing material, lots of flat styrofoam, plastic wrap and a huge cardboard box. Its going to take me weeks to parcel all this out in the weekly trash pick up. Some of the wood finish was worn, and a drawer piece had a crack in the wood from the factory installed glider. Some of the assembly involves those round metal catches that are pushed into holes then turned to lock onto a screwed in post. These were cheap and actually chipped and broke when I tried to tighten them. I don't like this system because they eventually wear, especially if you move the furniture a lot. They also don't pull the wood pieces together properly, leaving seam gaps in some places (sigh). As others have said, the sliding doors are not very smooth. Two design issues: At the end of the install, you are suppose to secure the wood counter top to the base with hex bolts. Based on the design, there is no way to tighten 4 of the 6 because you cant turn the hex key due to the structure of the cart getting in the way. Other reviewers also noted this problem. I had to use a hex bit and needle nose pliers, and still couldnt get them tightened all the way. Also, the shelf supports are smooth metal with a threaded end. You cannot thread these by hand very far. You will need needle nose pliers again. A better design would have been to slot the ends so a screwdriver could be used to screw them in. Good: The hardware is well labeled and put in seperate bags. The directions are fairly well written with better than average pictures. The wood is heavy and solid. Large parts to put together vs. lots of small parts, makes it easier to figure out and assemble. It could have been worse (IE: you dont have to install gliders on the drawers, wood dowells are pre-installed and glued). It looks good once put together, it's hard to tell it was assembled from a box. Let's hope it holds up over the long haul, especially for the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generally Good Quality The work surface is heavy duty, the fit/finish of the piece, mainly with how the drawers fit leaves a little to be desired. The right side drawer on ours isnt flush (I'm guessing the pre-assembled slides on the center divider between the drawers are slightly off on that side. Otherwise, it's fairly nice. And that drawer also doesnt slide as smoothly as the other one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great island for our kitchen We put this island in our kitchen, and it ended up being the perfect size for our space. We were a bit hesitant to order something that was self-assembly, but the quality is very good and the end result is very solid and doesn't look cheap.I'm taking off one star because the guide holes for the legs weren't even close to being aligned right, requiring me to re-drill new guides for the leg screws. Otherwise this island was a great purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it overall I love the ease and accessibility of this island. Great storage. Took my husband 2 hours to put together alone. It is very stable with the wood feet on, and we use as extra counter space for chopping vegetables, as well as a center for fondue during parties. My only frustration is that the paint on the doors is peeling at the corners, and is hard enough that I sliced my finger on it. Don't go poking at the peeling paint when you see it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to my kitchen Recently moved to an apartment with a galley kitchen, purchased this island to help close off the kitchen area, add some counter space/storage, and create a place to eat with the fold-up leaf. I assembled this by myself in a couple of hours, would have been easier with a second person only when placing the top on. Assembly was pretty straightforward and the piece is well made and very sturdy. I have no trouble with the sliding doors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I searched for the perfect island. I wanted the extra storage and the ability for counter stools. This island was easy to assemble and looks and feels great in my kitchen. I LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Product Very heavy duty. Went together well and not too difficult. Easy to understand directions. Sliding doors work great. They do not fall off as previous reviewer reported. My only complaint is the last 4 screws on the butcher block top are hard to reach. I went to a neighbor to have him cut off an allen wrench which then fit in the very tight spot. After that it was a breeze. Maybe the Crate & Barrel folks could include a short wrench for those screws. Very satisfied overall
