Love this table!
I loved the way the table looked and was prepared to purchase regardless of maintenance. Much to my delight it has been easy to maintain. My husband has put on a thin coat of beeswax 2 times and all we need to do is wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth after use. No water rings, no stains, and is absolutely perfect for our family of 4! I say go for it!

Beautiful and solid made
After waiting for 3 months, this table finally arrived! It is well worth the wait. The entire table is made with solid white oak with beautiful grains and splits. I absolutely love it. The only draw back (already mentioned by so many other reviewers) is the maintenance, and I guess the price tag (ouch...). My husband and I spent the entire afternoon putting a coat of beeswax on it. I don't understand why they will make this product without putting a finish to protect it from stains, and we customers have to do it. I'd be surprised if someone would intentionally decide to skip the waxing part, had they know there is no finish on the surface.
Anyway, still love it. Beeswax also shows the color of the wood a lot better. The Natural one seems darker in yellow tone after waxing. Eventually we decided to cut a big piece of glass top on it to make it maintenance free. Glass top makes the table look even prettier. By the way, the in-home delivery was awesome also. Highly recommended!

Big Sur - Big Impact but hard to maintain
Love this table, it looks great in my kitchen, and easily seats 8-10. only complaint is the wood is unforgiving. impossible to keep any spills, stains etc from eyes view. Tried everything from wood soap to steam. hate to cover it up for special occassions to hide it.

LOVE this table
This table is my pride and joy! Yes, it does require some maintenance (some waxing every year or so), but with an item of this beauty, maintenance is a joy. It is my absolute favorite piece of furniture - and a steal at it's price. If this appeals to your lifestyle, you cannot go wrong.
As an aside, we have no children but I can see how small, unknowing hands, can easily mark and scar this table. Keep it well waxed and this sturdy table could last (beautifully) for generations.

Beautiful table
We purchased this table about 6 years ago, and as beautiful as it is, and the wonderful space for anywhere from 8 to 10 people... The Maintenance has been an issue since day one! For the first year it was weekly that we would sand it and put marine wax on it, but water stains were constant! So I opted to have a piece of glass cut to cove the top! And it has made it maintenance free, but still shows the beauty of the table! Would have preferred to have had the natural wood exposed, but with 2 young boys! This was the best solution!

Great table
We have had this table now for 6+ years, having moved it over to Switzerland 4 years ago. It is still in wonderful condition! We have 4 children and never use a table cloth, though we do use placemats. Many have commented about stains, etc, but we have not had any problems. I do want to mention though, that we oil the table every 4-5 months. We use a mineral oil that is meant for bamboo cutting boards. This keeps the table from drying out, since I use a wet cloth daily to wipe food, etc. off the table and I think this also helps keep the table stain-free. The table is a bit darker from the oil than when we bought it, but it's still a beautiful table.

Excellent Product(s)
Purchased the Big Sur 90.5 table and 7l.5 matching bench. They arrived today and I can say without reservation this is the most beautiful (and substantial) table and bench I have ever encountered. My home is mostly Crate and Barrel parsons steel and glass tables, black leather furniture, metal bookcases, and the organic look of this set just "pops" and ties the whole decor together. Both items are incredibly well made.

Beautiful Table Built to Last
We've had this table for 3 years and it's been great... really well constructed solid oak will last forever. It does require a coat of linseed oil every so often to keep it looking fresh but it's totally worth it. This is a table you could pass down to your kids.

Great Table but Need More Chair Options
There's no disputing that this is a beautiful table and is certainly sturdy. My only complaint is that Crate and Barrel doesn't offer more matching options for chairs. I purchased a bench for one side, but have had a terrible time finding chairs for the other side and ends.

solid table
We searched high and low for a table for our house and ended up purchasing with Big Sur. It has held up well to a busy house of boys and recevies a lot of complents on how is looks. I keep it free from water stains by occasionally using beeswax over the entire table.

Love my Big Sur
We added this table to our wedding registry and were so happy when our parents bought it as a wedding gift for our new home!
We have gotten so many compliments from guests over the years and after much use it is still in perfect condition!

High maintenance!
The Big Sur is a lovely table & seems to be well made except when it comes to the finish. The table is contemporary in style & is made of a beautiful wood so it seems absurd to cover it with a table cloth or to ask a family with children to have to use coasters at the dining table for years to come. This table couldn't handle a somewhat cool glass of water (no ice) for 20 minutes without leaving multiple rings. If it were sealed properly I would give this table 5 stars, but as it is, it is lovely to look at but completely useless as a dining surface.

what about the ring marks?
I have this table for over 3 years now, every time a guest puts a glass on it I get worried that there will be a ring mark from the glass or cup. 90% of the time it happens and I find it impossible to use the table without a tablecloth on it. Any suggestions anyone?

5 Stars ~ Top Rated
We are Americans living in a very old farmhouse in France. Crate & Barrel shipped TWO tables here for us & they are THE BEST! We can seat up to 10 at each table, as we also have the matching benches. There are wonderful antique farmhouse tables in France but I wouldn't trade.

Exclusive Design
I haven't seen this design anywhere else. It will last for a lifetime. As it age, it gets a richer darker color

Fabulous piece of furniture
We bought this table four years ago, and LOVE it so much we have bought 4 benches and the smaller version of the tabke as well. We use the benches around the house as well as with the tables. The construction is BOMBPROOF - I literally think it could be a bombshelter! - which makes the higher price less of an issue...this is something we will always keep, no matter where we live. It is the best thing C&B offers, hands down.

Great Purchase
I've owned this item for almost 3 years and I still love it. I would buy it all over again. It's contemporary with 5 leather chairs and the bench - comfortably seats 8. Every guest comments on it when visiting. Dressed up, it's become the focal point when entering my home. I found some of the other reviews informative on maintenance. Fortunately, no incidents yet! At least I'll be prepared should something spill. This is a quality item that under normal circumstances, should last forever. You will not be disappointed. GO FOR IT!

ultimate table
I have had this table for about 5 years and it still looks like new. It easily seats 10 and works with contemporary to country. Others have written about staining and water marks. Cleaning with lemon oil removes the marks and keeps the wood looking raw and natural but still protected.
