LOVE it.
I looked around for at least a year for a table and absolutely LOVED this one. I get compliments on it from almost everyone who comes over, it's so pretty and sturdy at the same time. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, Good Construction
This is a beautiful table made of solid wood. It seems to be built to last a long time. However, it does scratch easily so caution is necessary to maintain its beauty.

Very nice table
On the hunt for a dining table that wasn't too formal, but catching and I found this one. It looks lovely in my dining room and the color wood is just dark enough. So far so good. Use a table pad and care for it carefully. My only complaint is the description is a little misleading - extends to seat 10. Not sure what size adults C&B is using to make this measurement, but it's tight! I realize there is never a table big enough, but I was quite disappointed when I finally set it up. The size to me was very important and seats 8 is a better estimate.

Great Purchase!
We purchased the entire Kipling set from the table to the hutch and we love it. It is a very dark set (almost black with a cherry tone). In some of the other reviews you'll notice that people mention that it scratches easy. It does seem like its a table that you really have to care for...use place mats, table clothes etc...We haven't gotten a scratch yet, but we do take care of it. Probably not a purchase you'll want to make if you have small children running around.... It really is a beautiful set.

major disappointment
We purchased this table about two months ago, and now its time to purchase its replacement. We have never had a table that you can't even wipe down with a damp cloth without leaving water stains on it. The varnish/ wood stain wipes off with the dust. The wood is very soft and easily scratches and dents. I would not buy this table again even if it was priced $1. This table would work for you if you place it in a big glass box, to avoid the remote possibility of having to wipe it off. I recommend they remove this from the stores as it is a poor representation of Crate and Barrel.

beware
I was very excited about finally getting a nice dining room table that I would be able to enjoy over the years. That was 2.5 years ago...what I have now is a table with lots of scratches, dents and water marks from regular cleaning. Although from afar the table looks good, when coming in closer you can see all it's imperfections. I was dissapointed on how soft the wood was. I had my toddler do some coloring on the table and before I knew it the i had a carbon copy of his scribbling on my table. In the beginning I had used non-cotton placemats on the table and that was a big mistake because it caused lots of scratches on the table as well. Overall, buyer beware. If you are expecting this table to stand the test of time you better think again. I don't know if it's the quality of the wood or the staining treatment that has made this table to be of inferior quality.

Worst. Table. Ever.
I've had this table for a couple years now. Because it's a dining table, we purchased it for dining. However since owning it, we've realized it is sensitive to EVERYtHING: heat, cool, any sort of liquid, God forbid you get oil on it. You cannot use any cleaning products, we've tried everything wood friendly under the sun, and have had to frantically rub it off after applying. Our table has water stains, oil stains, scratches merely from woven placemats, everything. We don't eat on it now, unless there's a table cloth, and even then it must be fabric. I would strongly advise against purchasing this product.

A steal!
My husband purchased this table for me as a surprise for Christmas, I saw it at the outlet for $99!!! It was severely scratched but to my luck my father-in-law loves woodwork and sanded down the table and re-stained and sealed it. Looks amazing! Saved 800!

Good Multi-Purpose Table
My husband and I bought this table about a year ago and love it. We really enjoying having people over, so being able to expand the table easily to accommodate our guests is wonderful whether it is to eat dinner or play a board game. Like other reviewers have noted, it does scratch easily; however, most of the scratches are small and only noticed when looking closely. The table did arrive with a large crack in the wood and Crate & Barrel replaced the top immediately, apologizing for the inconvenience. The customer service was fantastic.

Beautiful Addition to Kitchen
I was hesitant to purchase this table to use for everyday dining in our kitchen. Some reviewers noted that it scratches easily. We have had the table for over 2 months now and have not noticed any scratches or damage. We cover it with a padded table cloth when we entertain. We keep place mats on the table when we are eating. As long as you take basic measures to protect the table, it should hold up nicely. The table is absolutly stunning and we have received so many compliments on it!

Gorgeous Table
My husband and I are in love with our dining room. After a couple of months of looking everywhere I still had my heart set on this table. It makes our dining room look awesome. It was easy to put together and the delivery men were super nice. We plan on seating eight people at our table for Christmas. Our next purchase will have to be the buffet.

Not suited for dining
We received this table as a wedding present, one that would hopefully last us for many many years. However, the table is extremely sensitive to even gentle use. You absolutely MUST use coasters at all times, cannot wipe clean with anything remotely damp, and god forbid you spill food on it. We've had the table for two years and it is covered with scratches, stains and smudges that can't be cleaned. Crate and Barrel, if there's a product you recommend to seal it, or use for cleaning, please let your shoppers know! Otherwise, it seems this dining table cannot remotely serve its purpose: DINING!

A Truly Beautiful Table
My husband and I ordered this table a few weeks ago for our first house. We have never owned a dining room table before and were having a difficult time finding something we liked and could afford until we saw this online at Crate and Barrel. The table arrived this afternoon and we just finished setting it up. It is more beautiful than I thought it would be. It arrived packaged extremely well with not a scratch on the table or matching chairs. We look forward to using this table for many years to come.

Great purchase but...
Table is beautiful. Made overseas and although foreign made goods have come a long way, you should double check the qualityof this item when it lands at your door. I had to repair some of thr unit myself and later the leaf warped after only a couple of months. (stored properly....) C&B called to see how we liked outr recent purchases and we then indicated the issues we had. They completely replaced the table and leaf and checked the new items b4 they sent them to us. Great customer service!!!

Love It!
I've had my eye on this traditional updated dining table for about 2 years. I finally purchased it along with the chairs and cushions in Dec 2008 and it is just as lovely as it is pictured. Of course you should view it in the store before purchasing it. It is a very dark mahogany color that almost looks black. I wish it was a little more on the brownish/reddish side, but this is personal preference. I still love its rich, dark color. I use and recommend a table cloth along with a table cloth pad to preserve its shine and to avoid scratches. I’m sure it’s difficult to avoid the scratches if you use the table on a daily basis without any coverings. Oh, when you have it delivered and receive the pieces make sure you closely examine each detail. (I am very meticulous unlike my husband who received the items). I noticed a minor stress-fracture on the chair seating after the fact, and we had the option to bring it to the store to exchange it, which is more convenient if you live near a C&B. If we had the delivery to take care of it, it would have taken much longer since you have to set up a delivery date, then wait to schedule the given time range. Anyway, the Kipling dining set is in our formal dining room, so we have gently used it a couple times for large family gatherings and it has served us well! The table leaf comes in handy when we need the extra space. Overall, the table is well constructed with quality wood, reasonably priced, and a great traditional style with an updated stylish look! I love my Kipling dining set!

Great Table Reasonable Price
I looked everywhere for a traditional styled dining room table that would provide a lot of seating without seeming monstrous in my 12x13 dining room and this table fit the bill perfectly. Without the leaves it's the perfect size for everyday display and I can comfortably seat 8 without things getting really cramped once the leaf is added which is very easy to do. My only complaint is that the table is showing some scratching after 6 months of being covered by a pad and table cloth for extremely light use but that is the price you pay when you go with wood over a glass top. The table is a nice statement piece, simply but sophisticated.
