Media Storage in a Small Condo
I have a smaller one bedroom condo so I needed a place to store my media that would not take up or over power my entire living room. For that reason I think this product is perfect , it allows ample space to store my media and with its slim profile and open shelving it does not make my living room feel any smaller. I think this would be a great choice for anyone who needs storage in a smaller space.

5 Star Looks 2 Star Quality
I purchased the Sloane Espresso Media Stand with 2 25.5” shelves. I thought this piece would be perfect with its dark finish, red tones and open space, as it sits against a red brick wall which I did not want to obfuscate. Everyone who has seen it compliments its looks.
However, construction is very cheap. I purchase it in February, and the first time that I dusted it (lightly with a micro fiber cloth) the veneer on the front of one of the shelves peeled off the shelf. The veneers are also very soft and easily damaged. I turned my tv to plug in an audio cable and it rubbed the veneer right off of the arm the shelf. I am concerned about putting any hard item on the shelving units.
I had planned to purchase the bar unit for the other end of the wall opposite the kitchen and was contemplating the desk unit as well, but after owning the shelving units and media unit, I will not be purchasing anymore pieces from this line (which is disappointing). The idea of hard bottles coming in contact with the veneers strikes me as a waiting disaster.
Other consideration, the line is designed to rest flush against a wall for support, yet all of holes in the media unit for your cables are on the back of the unit (so it can not sit against a wall). I used a whole saw to cut vertical holes for my hdmi cables on top and power cables on the bottom. I plan to borrow a jigsaw from my cowoker to cut holes in the shelves inside the media cabinet so that I can run cables inside the cabinet to the power and hdmi wholes I drilled. The top of the veneers survived drilling, but the bottom veneers (which no one sees fortunately, got wrecked).

Perfect Fit
The TV stand fits my 42" plasma tv perfectly. Definitely not for larger tv's unless you don't mind the width of your tv sitting in front of the bookcases. The unit as a whole is beautiful, sleek and modern. It's the perfect center piece in my living room and really ties the whole space together.
I will say that even though it was easy to put together the instructions were not very clear. I built the bookcases first and by the time I got to the tv stand i realized that some of the pieces had to be swapped on the bookcases since it was unclear which way they went. Not too hard to fix though.
Other than that I truly love the entire ensemble. One of my best purchases ever!

Great Media Center
We live in a small one bedroom apartment and were looking for a media center that would maximize vertical wall space. This unit does the trick. We have a 32" tv which fits great (you could definitely go bigger though, as ours has at least 5 or 6 inches on each side). Our bookshelves are completely full of books and all the shelves are strong and sturdy. We did not mount the unit to the wall since we are renters but added some adhesive padding to the back so it wouldn't leave marks on the wall. Also, the instructions say to use one connector for each bookshelf but we decided to use three for more support. Our floor isn't level on one side so that partidular shelf leans to the back a bit, but I'm sure if the floor was level or we had mounted to the wall it would be fine. Regardless, we really like the unit and hands down would buy it again.

Great for Small Spaces
I have both the Sloane leaning desk and one of the bookcases, and I love them. They create a lot of storage space in a small room, and are surprisingly stable for something that leans against the wall. My only issue was putting together the bookcase recently - the legs aren't labeled left and right, and I ended up doing it backwards...twice.

Great Media Center
I ordered the media stand with a bookshelf on one side and the wine bar on the other. Living in a urban apartment I needed to maximize the use of a small space and the combination is working perfectly. It was not the easiest piece of furniture to assemble alone, but the finished product works great. No complaints.

Great Purchase
I recently purchased the media stand and it looks great in my new place! Instead of 2 book cases I put the Bar on one side and the bookcase on the other. We have a small apartment and the use of storage for wine, DvDs, Pictures, & Books is amazing. Plus it looks great!

I LOVE this media console and bookshelf combo. I have a very open loft living room with 24' ceilings and this piece is simple yet made a dramatic presence in the room.

Beautiful and Mondern
After searching many months for the perfect media center we saw this one and loved it right away. My husband and I felt that it took the appropriate amount of time to set up (approx. 1 1/2-2 hrs). Coming from a custom cabinet making family I am very particular. This is very sturdy with a good quality finish. Every one of our friends who have came to our house immediately ask where we got it. It works great in a smaller living room, not making it feel too crowded, and gives lots of shelving/storage.

Great style, Great quality, Perfect Piece
This was my first purchase from Crate and Barrel and probably my best one ever in general. I have a small apartment but I was amazed at how much bigger this unit makes the living room space seem - due to its open space and height. It fits all my books and media perfectly, along with decoration items. The rich dark brown color looks great, especially against my honey mustard accent wall. It's really the showpiece of the living room. I wasn't sure if I had made the right decision, but once it was up I had no doubts. It's a perfect mix - elegant and modern - exactly what I was looking for. It took my boyfriend a few hours to put it together, but he had no issues. I haven't even had to use the wall fasteners. It's holding up fine just leaning against my wall. It's a perfect piece...I love it!

Great Piece of Furniture
I was very happy with this purchase. The media center arrived quickly and was well packaged with no damage. The bookcases were easy to assemble, however the media stand was quite a bit more difficult. It definitely took two people for that part. We were also missing one screw. It wasn't an important screw, so we were still able to assemble the entire center without it, but I still need to call and get it so we can put that last screw in. The threading on the end of one of the screws stripped while we were putting it in as well, so my husband had to carve out the hole where the screw went in a little deeper so the screw could go in farther past the point of the stripped threading. A small design flaw in our opinion. Fortunately it was a fairly easy fix if you have the right tools.
Otherwise, the center is well constructed and seems pretty sturdy. It has lots of space on the shelves and because of its slim, open design, it works extremely well in our very small living room.

Great media stand and bookshelf!
The sloan media stand and bookshelf was a fantastic purchase and fits nicely into the living room of my apartment. It holds a 40-42" TV without difficulty and has plenty of storage space below. The only problem we encountered was with assembly. It took us approximately 12 hours to put it together (that includes the three times we had to disassemble because of errors)!!! The directions are poorly worded and difficult to follow. If you have a lot of patience and time, this is a great purchase for you.

Looks Great
The media stand was easy to assemble and provides plenty of shelving space for storage/display. I needed a large piece to occupy an empty wall; this media stand and shelves is the perfect fit and looks amazing.

Great Media center/Display
I recently purchased the Sloane Espresso package as my first Crate&Barrel furniture set and was more than presently surprised. While I did have to put it together at home, the kit quality and directions were great. I was really impressed by how well everything fit together and I have built my fair share of furniture.
The finished product was not only great to look at, but sturdy as well.
And if you're looking for reasons not to buy, please note that the sturdiness does come from the weight. So if you are carrying it home yourself, be sure to have two sturdy people for the job. Also, the sliding doors are only in-groove and though they slide well, it not as smooth as doors on wheels.
Other than that, it is a great set of furniture that we will be adding parts like the desk in the future.

Great Wall Unit / Media Stand
Living in an apartment, having something that looks great but is very functional in terms of making the most out of a small space is very important.
This piece certainly accomplishes that.
Instead of filling up the blank wall space around my TV with posters and pictures I can now use the functional bookshelves for storage as well as decorative display stands.
Easy to put together but there are may pieces so expect to spend about 3 to 4 hours putting it together if you are doing it by yourself.
Overall a great buy that I am incredibly happy with and have received many nice compliments on when visitors see it for the first time.

Great, Especially For the Price
It was fairly easy to assemble. It was cheap. It is pretty sturdy wood. Looks great. The only real downside is the fact that if it sits flush to the wall that you have no place for cords to enter or exit the unit. Also it took a little figuring out on how to make all the units flush with one another.

Clean Lines
I have had this media/book shelves piece for a few weeks & I am generally very happy with it.
My criticism is that it is only available in Espresso - I would have much preferred to have been able to get it in the same shade of grey in which the leaning shelves are available.

Excellent purchase!
I am so glad I purchased this media center. I had my doubts but once the product was assembled it looked beautiful in my living room! The structure is sturdy and the quality is great. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend. The only downside was confusion over the assembly instructions. My husband and father-in-law had a difficult time getting it together because the instructions were wrong. We read the reviews and saw that others had the problem as well. I'm glad we stuck it out because you can't beat this media center for the price. Fabulous deal!
