The Story

Specially handwoven on vertical punja looms, these cozy felted rugs inspired by the texture of rope exude natural warmth and the rich, heathered color variations of undyed wool. Each rug is handcrafted every step of the way over a period of several days. Crafted of pure wool, this rug will occasionally shed, especially during the first few months, which is easily managed with regular vacuuming.

Ivan Natural Felted Wool 5x8 Rug is rated 2.35 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gtreat to look at, but.... wears and sheds Have had this rug now 1 year in a seldom-used media room; no kids no pets. While I love the organic look, I would warn any buyers to be careful where you place this rug. Kids and pets? Fahgettaboutit! As stated this rug has little traffic, but tufts of wool pop out (probably because they use cheaper, shorter strands) which I have to tuck back in. Let me stress, this rug gets very little mileage. Sheds like an alley cat and whiffs of dust bunnies form easily and blow about on the wood floors. No, frequent vacuming hasn't much helped. But I still love the look! Alas, I'm am guilty of form over function, but be warned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing and poor quality Although this rug initially had great texture and seemed like a wonderful addition to our house, we couldn't be more disappointed. We know that rugs often shed for a little while, but after a year and a half, the shedding has continued and the rug is even falling apart in places. Daily vacuuming doesn't even keep the shedding under control and the texture that once looked expensive, looks messy and worn with strands of yarn everywhere. Terrible quality and very disappointing for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Second Terrible Rug from C&B This is the second rug I've had from Crate and Barrel and I'm not sure which one has been worse. Crate and Barrel replaced our original purchase because the rug was falling apart and shedding all over our house. After lengthy discussions with sales associates, we were assured this rug would be a better option and would not have the same issues as the first.I am sad to say that the Ivan rug is just as bad. It is falling apart, shedding constantly and looks terrible. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this product and the previous rug we owned. Crate and Barrel sells its products in at a higher price point and I would expect the quality and durability to reflect this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful rug/ horrible shedding My husband and I bought this rug a year ago and loved it. It adds great texture to a room and still a neutral color. The rug was shedding a lot so we waited hoping that after a little while it would quit shedding. However after several months, the rug was still shedding daily. It is beautiful but too much upkeep.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Rug! We purchased this rug several years ago. It sheds on a daily basis, is impossible to keep clean, pulls. The knots that make up the rug easily come out. I have bought many items from Crate and have loved them. This rug, however, is not one of them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from steer clear of this rug! We purchased this rug about a year ago. We are a middle aged couple with no children and a docile small dog. this rug has been well cared for and is in a room where it is not tread upon very often. This rug is nearly impossible to keep looking nice. it sheds and frays excessively. it is extremely difficult to vacuum. it cannot be vacuumed with a standard rotating brush as you would imagine. you must use the hand-held bit with no attachments that might catch on the fibers. I have to get on my hands and knees in order to be careful enough to avoid damaging the rug while i vacuum and it takes about 30 minutes to vacuum a 6x9 rug. I end up using scissors to trim the fraying pieces of knotted wool that come loose in between vacuums. you can try to "tuck in" the frayed bits back into the knot, but they just come back out in a short time.It tends to look dingy as well. it mats and just looks unkempt no matter how hard you try maintain it.Don't believe any responses to these posts from crate and barrel about it getting better over time. the fraying continues and does not improve.we have been loyal customers of C&B. We registered here for our wedding and, in their defense, they tend to have some very nice products but this is not one of them. It should be pulled from their inventory.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Makes our dog look bad! One word: shedding. We have a golden doodle and if people come to our house, unannounced (i.e. no time to vac) they assume the hairy dust bunnies on our floor are from the dog. Poor dog – he sheds less than I do and his coat is a different color to the rug, so unmistakably not his fault. The rug sheds on a daily basis and we've had it for over a year! I keep hoping that it will calm down but this is just ridiculous. It is such a shame, as the rug, when new, was beautiful, both in color and texture – a joy to walk on. But unfortunately, this rug requires constant maintenance and increases your housework 10-fold with the incessant battle to keep rug fibers off the lounge, blankets and throw pillows, not to mention yourself if you sit down on it.1 year later and it most definitely does not feel like $1k+ well spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The shedding is unbearable! We loved the look of this run, and it is beautiful, but the shedding is just unbearable! We spent over $1000 on this run and now it just sits rolled up in our basement. Vacuuming often pulled the loops up and we glued some back down. So you really can't vacuum too often and it sheds like CRAZY. We had to take it out of the living room once we had our daughter since the shedding was getting all over everything, including her. Such a shame and a waste of $$.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous! Beautiful rug, incredible texture, soft to the touch

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not hold up I bought this about a year ago and wish I had known that it was going to come apart. Regular (and not all that frequent) vacuuming causes the loops to come apart and stick up. It ruins the look of the rug.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be aware!!!! I was so excited to receive this rug after waiting while it was on back order. We immediately put it on our wood floor and have been cleaning up piles of carpet fibers for weeks due to the shedding. I keep hoping everyday this will be the last of it. There is also a snag already in the rug and there has been very little wear directly on it. Hoping the company is reviewing these comments and will be willing to work with people. It is an expensive rug and very disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Recommend While this rug is very beautiful and unique, we purchased this rug a couple months ago and it no longer even looks like the same rug.  Within the first couple weeks the rug was coming apart and shedding terribly.  I let it go as you could just push the loops back in and thought maybe it just needed to shed a little and then it would stop.  It has been a couple months and some loops aren't going back together and from a distance you can't even see knots anymore it just looks like a "hairy" mess.  We are not hard on our rugs at all and have no kids and the only part of this rug that still looks good after two months is the part underneath the sofas.  I wish I hadn't purchased this rug as it is too expensive to only last a couple months.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful rug We've had this rug for a few weeks now. Absolutely loved it in the store. We love the color as well, and how it feels when you walk on it. However, like others have stated - it doesn't hold up well, and it does shed like crazy. I definitely think it is way overpriced for the quality of the rug, because it probably won't last very long. I do love the look though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks great! (for two weeks) Don't be fooled by this great-looking rug in the store. Starts to shed immediately and only lasts a few weeks before it's a completely different rug.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not wear well I bought this rug after seeing it in the store and walking on it. We loved it in the store and could not wait for ours to arrive. When the rug first arrived it was perfect in color, super soft to walk on and the perfect addition to our living room (we have the 8X10). However, within a few weeks of having the rug small tufts started to come up, which I just tucked back in. This was a minor annoyance easily dealt and I assumed was par for the course given it is supposed to be hand woven. The bigger issue I have with this rug is that it sheds--A LOT! It sheds worse than my dog, which is saying a lot. I am constantly having to sweep up rug dust bunnies (and no, it's not my dog's hair, they are very different in color, length and texture). We got this rug thinking it would be perfect for us to sit and play on the floor with our baby. However, your socks, pants, blankets, EVERYTHING is covered with "hair" from the carpet with the least interaction. We now have to put blankets down on it in order to put our daughter on it otherwise she ends up with the fibers in her mouth. I have cared for the rug per the instructions given to me in the store and that came with the rug, and expected a small amount of shedding given it's wool, but this is ridiculous. It is also starting to look worn after only 3 months. Because of all the shedding, it looks almost shaggy, instead of the nice tight weave it had when we got it. Bottom line--this rug looks and feels great when you get it, but does not wear well in my experience. Not really worth the expense and if i had a do-over, would not buy it again.
