Good Service/bad product
I bought this torch last December for holiday baking and used it once fairly successfully. My friend was working with her torch at the same time that she bought online for much cheaper. Hers seemed to use a lot less gas and got a quicker browning effect. I tried using mine a second time a few weeks later, and it wouldn't even ignite! I tried several times, and made sure the nozzle was clean, properly aligned and the gas was filled.
I gave this product 3 stars only because Crate and Barrel's customer service exchanged it for me with my receipt without any hassle. I exchanged it for the same product, and when I opened the package, the nozzle was scratched up as if someone else was trying to fix theirs too! I haven't tried this one yet since I need to get more refill gas.

Perfect brown tops
Fairly easy to use, especially for a first time torch user! But the lighting mechanism is a little tricky at first. I guess the safety latch was smarter than me :)

Culinary Torch
This is a great culinary torch. Great quality for the price. Flame is a little slow, but I found it to be helpful as I had never made creme brulee before. I was glad I did not have to worry about burning them. I bought the cheap butane from the grocery store and it worked great. Would recommend!

Perfect Creme Brulee
This torch is so easy to use and browns creme brulee perfectly. It has a no-slip covering so you won't drop your flaming torch. It has a small flame so it can take a bit longer to brown things, but I'd rather have it that way than risk burning my desserts with a bigger flame. It is easy to fill with butane and the fuel lasts a long time so you don't need to refill part way through your job.

Works great, even in the garage too!
I love this torch, it works great! The only problem with it is the lighting mechanism is a little tricky at first. Mainly has to do with the safety latch. It works great for a lot of dessert type applications, carmelizing sugar, meringues, works great to quickly sear sushi and occasionally my husband has used it in the garage. I would not recommend this type of application, however.

Buy the right fuel!
This torch works well once you buy the right fuel... DO buy the cheap butane meant for cigarette lighters. DON'T buy the fancy kitchen store butane meant for culinary torches. The fancy stuff won't load correctly, and you'll be frustrated and think your torch doesn't work. But with the cheap stuff from the grocery or liquor store, you're in business. Holds a good flame for a long time. Still takes a little while to brown 8 creme brulees, but gives a nice result overall.
