Great with a but
The Ken Onion is incredibly comfortable to use and is incredibly sharp, unbelievably sharp, it will probably be the best knife you ever use. However you pay a price for performance, the high carbon content in the steel means that Shun can get a very fine edge on their knives, it also means that the steel is brittle. If you are going to buy this knife, do not go in with the expectation of cutting through anything tougher than under ripe pumpkin. Try to avoid hitting pips or other hard objects and never ever bear down on the knife. If you need to bear down, it's too tough for the knife to handle. Try to cut everything with a slicing motion. If this all sounds a little ridiculous, you'll find the german knives a lot more sturdy for those that expect absolute durability.

DO NOT BUY THIS KNIFE or anything from SHUN
Their warranty is junk. We purchased this knife and exactly 34 days later noticed a blemish on the sharp side of the blade. We took excellent care of this and cut nothing that should not have been cut and the blade looks like a pebble was attempted to be cut. We contacted Shun warranty and they simply said they were not sure if they were able to cover it but we were going to have to pay for shipping to send it back to them and wait 4 weeks to get a decision.
I just bought the knife and would bring it back to C&B but it's just past the 30 days so now we have to deal with this company and their very bad warranty.
If you get anything out of this review please buy German knives and stay away from this Japanese "craftsmanship," it's junk.
If this had negative stars I would have chosen that....

Amazing knife!
This knife is very pricey but worth every penny. It fits into your hand like a glove and glides through any and everything. It makes chopping a sensual pleasure! We have it displayed on our kitchen counter, where it doubles as a cool urban-y sculpture. We love to cook and having a world class knife like this makes it even more of a pleasure. Fork (or knife) out the cash--you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful and razor sharp
This knife is gorgeous. But besides that, it is razor sharp and beyond worth its price. When you hold this knife it feels like an extension of your hand. Not to mention the extended bolster makes it so comfortable you don't want to set it down. Although it is a pretty penny upfront it will last you a lifetime if properly taken care of.

Japanese Sword American Style
Let me tell you I was in the market for a japanese blade, I was looking at Hattoris, Masamotos, Misunobut I am glad I got this Shun. For those of you that use German Steel, beware you will not use your German blades after buying this blade. The shape of the blade just makes its uses endless, from chopping, to slicing, you will notice how sharp this blade is. The fact that Shun also includes free sharping for life is also a plus, even if you sharpen your own blades, you will appreciate the fact that shun offers free sharpening on this blade for life. I can strongly recommend this blade to anyone taking the leap to japanese blades. Be warned though, becaause of the Carbon involved with this blade, you do have to keep it dry at all times, no dishwashing, and any citrus will cause the blade to rust if left on the blade for long periods of life. Other than that, I think this blade is will worth the price.

Heavenly Cutting Experience
Good cooks require good tools, and if you are an avid chef you could not do much better than this beautiful, extraordinarily sharp chef's knife. We had an excellent set of knives prior to this one, but cutting with the shun knife is an entirely different experience. It allows incredibly thin slicing, cuts tomatoes with ease, and cuts through even thick veggies like pineapple and butternut squash almost no effort. Plus it is gorgeous and will bring a sense of style and elegance to the kitchen. It may be a bit on the expensive side, but this knife is more than worth the price.
