Rated 5 out of 5 by ivathediva from Beautiful dinnerware setI have had my Madison set for three years now and I still love it just as much as day one. Only one of my plates has broken thus far, but that was because I was an idiot and dropped it in the sink on top of some other breakable things. We use the Madison set for our every day dishes. One note, because they're a little lopsided (meant to be that way), they only fit in the dishwasher a particular way. Not a huge issue, you just have to rotate it until it fits nicely (with the narrow side down).

Rated 2 out of 5 by lauren423 from Why do they crack so easily? My husband and I loved this dishware, as it seemed like a great alternative to everyday china, so we registered for the entire set for our wedding. That was 18 months ago - and already 5 plates have a huge crack down the middle, all the way across. I didn't see the review below before buying, but we've had the same issue and are now having to replace a large number of them, not even 2 years later! Maybe it is the sensitivity to temperature change - we do put ours in the dishwasher? Not sure...still love the look, but hate that they may not even last 5 years!

Rated 4 out of 5 by WendyS from Great, but will be discontinued in JulyThese are great, and we registered for them for our wedding less than 2 years ago. We just got a note in the mail that they will be discontinued starting in July. Just something to keep in mind if you're registering for sets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dishowner from Excellent for Everyday UseI have the dinner plates, salad plates, mugs, and symmetical bowls (place settings for 14). They have lasted many years already with everyday use. They are my only set of dishes. They work well in the microwave and dishwasher. Sometimes, I have to rotate the plates a bit to align the thick and thin parts of the plates, so they don't bang against each other in the dishwasher, but that is uncommon and quick to do. I have broken plates, but that was because they were dropped on the floor or granite countertop or broken during moving. They are quite sturdy. I've dropped heavy utensils on them and dropped them in the sink and they have survived with no damage. I highly recommend these dishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Annerin from Great for everydayMy Husband and I registered for this set for our wedding in 2010, we loved the fun shape. We have been using them for 3 1/2 years now for everyday use and still love them. They get put in the dish washer and microwave and we have never broke any and none of ever chipped on us! We have slacked and never finished the set so I am so happy to see that they are still available. We will finally finish our set! Love love love!

Rated 2 out of 5 by JPinAK from Beautiful but not durable.Very disheartened at the durability of these dishes. The plates often crack right down the middle for no apparent reason. Many times I take them out of the dishwasher to find they've cracked (across the entire plate) or find them chipped. Believe me, I wanted to love these dishes, but in the end I truly regret my purchase. They are very expensive, and for that amount of money I would have expected not to have to replace 6 or more pieces per year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AudiophileNYC from Contemporary plates but with some issuesThese are modern and elegant plates with most of the pieces featuring an asymmetrical shape that is currently popular and used by other (usually) more expensive manufacturers. The consequence of these shapes is that they can be challenging to fit in the dishwasher, especially the oval soup bowls as others have noted. However, there are some items that do not have an asymmetrical shape (mugs, cups and serving bowls) that make them seem like they are from a different set. When I see all the pieces in the store, they don’t seem to work together as a result. Never the less, I purchased the asymmetrical pieces (I use different mugs with an asymetrical shape from another manufacturer) and I am very content. But, I have noticed that the set is susceptible to crazing (surface anomalies that look like scratches) after just a few dishwashings which seems inappropriate given the price, that they are from Germany (known for many high end porcelain manufacturers ) and the fact that dishwasher proofing should be more robust these days. Recommended with the above caveats noted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Luv2shop4all from Love these dishesI have been using these for everyday dishes for at least five years, if not more, and I love them. They have held up very well. There have been a couple of chips, but that was my fault. They are porcelain, so of course you can't let kids bang them on the table. They have withstood daily use by my family of five for quite a while, and they look great for a casual supper as well as a holiday dinner. I wish they made more pieces because I am a huge fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sakh from We love our dishesWe registered for these dishes for our wedding in 2007. So we are going on 6 years of use. We have broken a couple (our own fault though) and we have 1 chipped bowl. The chip and breaks were our fault (either we dropped them, dropped something on them). We use them for everything and have a toddler who uses them too. I think they have held up great. We like the shapes of the dishes although the smaller bowls don't load in our dishwasher well. I would buy these again though. We liked them in 2007 and still like them now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sunshinedaisy from Decent dishesMy husband and I registered for these dishes and have been using them for 10 months now. We use these every day - in the microwave and dish washer. I believe they've held up pretty well - one plate was accidentally dropped on the ground and understandably, broke. I did notice one small chip in the edge of one bowl recently, but no other issues. Love the modern, funky off centered lines and overall am happy with these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ajhueston from yes to dinner parties - NO to kids!Love the simplistic style the madison line gives... However, these plates are extremely fragile and should not be used with or around children! I cannot stress how fragile these plates are, but the design keeps me!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Raeofsunshine from Small bowlThis bowl is alot smaller than I expected, and doesn't really serve a purpose. It's nice quality, but I would've preferred a little larger.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Miggysgirl44 from Lovely but Don't Hold UpMy husband and I registered for the Madison dinnerware when we got married. We loved the clean, modern look and the fun flare that the asymmetrical edges add. Unfortunately, we've had them for a little less than two years and they're already showing considerable wear and tear. There are a number of salad plates and bowls that are either chipped or have rough/jagged edges that lead me to believe they're about to chip. One of my dinner plates also has a crack through both sides about half its width. It was a little embarassing when family members would offer to set the table during the holidays and had to sort through my chipped dinnerware. That definitely wasn't the look I was going for on my Christmas table! The worst part is that it's just my husband and I, so it's not like the dishes are being subjected to strenuous wear and tear. I just assumed that I could expect quality from Crate and Barrel. I'm so disappointed to learn that that's not necessarily the case, especially now that I've read that others have had the same problem. I hope you have better luck if you decide to go for the Madison dishes!
