The Story

Our "Italian Cooking Essentials" collection from famed chef and restaurateur Mario Batali expands with a Bistro Pan in red. Enameled cast iron pan ensures superior low-heat cooking and exceptional heat retention. Oven or stovetop, this versatile pan is ideal for braising, one-pot meals, stocks, sauces and more. Close-fitting lid traps moisture; large handle makes for easy oven-to-table transport. Clean in the dishwasher, with Bar Keepers Friend or baking soda as described below.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Pan! I bought this pan with a gift card when it was on sale. So far I've used it for several different dishes and each one came out great! I particularly like how it can go right from oven to table. I also love the lid which allows for even distribution of condensed moisture! Not single regret here!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't last long This was one of the wedding presents that I was most excited about receiving; we have had it under a year and half. I didn't have a nonreactive pot that was large enough to make sauces for canning so I thought this would be perfect. At first it was great, but about 3 months in the top and lid began to rust. And more recently the bottom has stained. I am disappoint about this, I wish we would have registered for another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pot! I have two of these dutch ovens, the 6 quart round and the 6 quart oval. I use them both all the time, mostly for braising recipes. I know I can rely on the thickness of the pan to ensure the food does not burn, even though it often cooks in the oven or stove top for hours.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Bad I've had this pan for two months. It's been very functional, but already has a large chip on the handle. I'm not even sure how it happened--maybe I bumped it with the heavy lid. The inside seems to be holding up, but this won't be an heirloom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make me smile! I now have the Red Bistro Pan to go with my other Mario Batali Enameled Cast Iron Cookware, and it makes me smile just to see it! The design lines are wonderful, the look timeless and elegant. As with my other enameled cast iron, it heats evenly and cleans up well. Great for stews and large sauce recipes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! The dutch oven is perfect. I use it for pasta, soup, stew, casserole, chicken, etc. It's great for stove top and oven use..and I put it in the refrigerator for left overs. It's a great size for a family and washes very easily. I love it! I just bought another one for a wedding gift for my cousin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to pan! I LOVE this pan! I love cooking and I cook for my family of 5 every day (mostly from scratch). I love how it has a big surface area and I don't need to cook in batches. And it makes a lot of food at once so I usuaully have leftovers for lunch next day. I've made pasta sauces, casseroles, stews, chicken pot pie, curries, paella, biryani rice, carmelized onions and more! It's also a beutiful pan that you can serve directly from on the table top! Cleaning is also pretty easy - even when I scorched my rice in it (I totally forgot about it and walked away from the kitchen!), I just had to soak the bottom of the pan then cleaned it with baking soda and vinegar with a soft sponge. One thing you may want to know, though, is that this is a super HEAVY pan and you definitely need two hands to lift it. My mother in law says it's not for her because of the weight. The lid is very heavy, too, and it creates such a tight seal when it's on the pan that I didn't realize my rice was burning untill I lifted the lid!. It's also a big pan so storage can be a problem if you have a small kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Pan I absolutely LOVE this pan. I have several of the Mario Batali enameled cast iron cookware pieces and I would buy them all if I could. This pan is so useful for so many cooking techniques. I love to braise in it and it comes in handy whenever I am making pastas, curries, rice dishes, and so much more. It is also beautiful and can go from kitchen to table easily. I would buy this pan over and over again, I love it!
