The Story

Modern media center with an heirloom look, handcrafted along traditional lines in northern India from two highly desirable, highly sustainable tropical hardwoods. Multiple hand-applied layers of European paste wax imbue Noche's distinctive deep plum-black color with a sense of the antique. High-tech electronic gear will glow behind glass-paned doors, detailed with iron hinges, door pulls and prominent flip latches. Cord management cutouts included.

Noche 62 Media Console is rated 3.75 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful finish and solid, audiophiles beware! First of all, the Noche 62”media center is made of hardwoods in India and is very solidly built. The description uses words like “handcrafted”, “heirloom look” and “antique”. I would use the word “distressed" and the imperfections and “rough” craftmanship do make it look like somewhat of an antique and "old".But although the craftsmanship is not precise and rough in nature it is by no means shoddy. Just don't expect precision and perfection on any level. Shelves are not interchangeable (on my unit) as one won't fit in the other section. One shelf on the highest "setting" is not level...no problem as the weight of my stereo receiver keeps it flush against three of the four support pegs.As a media center, I had to do a lot of customizing. I cut two 3" holes in the upright divider walls at the top to funnel wires more easily to other components even though smaller cutouts exist at the top and bottom. I also cut holes in the back to provide a heat escape for the components and easier access to the back of the receiver. I use banana plugs to connect my speakers and the HDMI cables and plugs would not allow me to fit the receiver in the cabinet with those connected! I certainly could not even close the door. So...I carefully measured and cut another opening in the back that allowed me easy access to the receiver's back inputs. The wires stick out just a little bit but it is not an issue in our installation.Getting big components in the cabinets took a bit of juggling and I had to get my wife to help me. She installed the shelf at the proper height while I held up the larger components to the top of the cabinet. You will have to put the larger components in vertically and then turn them horizontal to get them to fit.Since I control everything with an IR remote, I don't have to have the doors open to activate any part of the entertainment system due to the glass in the doors.Overall, the unit required a decent amount of customizing but I am very happy with the look of the unit. The stain was applied somewhat recently as there was still a fairly strong smell when you opened the doors (3 weeks later, it is faint but still there). But I had none of the other issues another reviewer reported (stain coming off on hands). If you are not a handyman and have a serious amount of audio gear, either expect to hire someone to customize or look for another media center. Here is how to tell: do you have an oscillating tool/saw? You can do this with a jigsaw but any serious handyman has this wonderful tool and it will make this customizing job easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous furniture Originally bought as a bookcase, I moved it to my dining room as an impromptu buffet. One of my best decisions!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from black paint stains everything red I have one of these from a couple years ago. I'm not sure if they're using the same paint, but if there's any moisture on mine, it leaves big white patches. If I try to wipe the piece with a damp cloth, the cloth comes up with red stain all over it. Today was the final straw. My cat dumped her water bowl and before I realize it she walked across this console. She had red stain all over her white fur, and tracked it across my chair's white slipcover. Very poor choice of finish and I'm surprised at C&B.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece! Purchased this product and can't say enough good things: Beautiful craftsmenship, solid construction, was exactly as pictured so no 'surprises' on wood color/tones. It's scary sometimes to purchase a larger piece of furniture online, but this experience will bring me back to Crate & Barrel without any hesitations! the photo here doesn't do it justice!
