Awful plates
I had these on my wedding registery, but wish I would not have put them on it. I love Crate and Barrel, but would think twice about buying dishes from them ever again. After our first month using them we had to go get several replacement bowls and plates because they had cracked in the dishwasher. Also, after having them over a year the finish has worn off and they look more purple then a deep red color. Overall, just a poor product.

save your money
I have had these dishes for a year and a half and I am so disappointed with them. Within three months, the finish had a blue spotted film over it. At first I thought it was caused by my dishwasher, but I double checked with Crate and Barrel and was reassured that they were dishwasher safe. It has gotten so bad that there are large white patches on a couple of them giving the appearance that food is left behind on them. I don't dare get them out if I have dinner guests because I am so embarrassed at their dingy appearance. I only wish I had read reviews before I made the investment.

Sort of sad.
We originally registered for a set of the kita dinnerware for our wedding and replaced the entire set with the mahogany as the kita stained with regular use (that's a whole different review though).
The mahogany has been an improvement in the sense that we can eat spaghetti and we don't have to immediately scour the dishes to prevent staining. That being said, these dishes have acquired a dingy sort of spotted blue color over one year of use. I guess I am more or less over it. I guess I am fine with blue spotted mahogany dishes. I've read the other reviews and am aware that the dishes require very particular care to prevent discoloration. But, the way my life works I don't have a ton of time and energy to take all kinds of measures to keep my dishes from discoloring. Sometimes I eat a meal and don't get to "promptly" rinse. Maybe the average crate and barrel customer has abundant time and energy to devote to special dish care. As for me, I just want dishes I can eat off of, that look pretty nice and that I can wash in the dish washer. So far, in my experience it seems like crate and barrel doesn't carry dishware that stand us to normal use and normal washing. So, I just try to think of this collection as "blue tinted mahogany" and I spend less time babying my dishes and more time on other life activities.

Do not buy this dinnerware
While these dishes are beautiful, there is definitely a flaw in their manufacture. I am on my second set (the first was replaced by Crate and Barrel because of discoloration) and have followed all of the recommendations made by both customer service and the salesperson. I even bought the exact recommended dish washing detergent, yet this set is now discoloring, just like the first set, after just a few months. Unless you want to wash your every day dishes by hand every time you use them, do not buy this set.

Mahogany dinnerware
I am on my 3rd year with these dishes and I love them! I have not had any discoloration or chips. Granted there are only two of us in the household but these are our everyday dishes and we entertain frequently. I didn't even know there was a problem with discoloration or using citrus-free detergent until today. I use Dawn antibacterial and have had no problems. I actually keep hoping to find these at a less expensive price so that I can add on to my 8 plate set.

Very hard to find citrus-free detergent!
Really, dishes shouldn't be this hard just to maintain. I read the reviews about the finish after we registered for these and started getting them. They're beautiful, and we had them, so we decided to keep them.
Being warned, we've been careful. But it's actually very hard to find detergents without citrus/lemon, including those labeled as natural or gentle. Many detergents don't list their ingredients on the bottle. I've even spent time looking online, and after searching (hard!) for ingredients, I've found that many I thought would be free did have lemon, and some major brands simply don't list the information.
Despite our care, our latest detergent must have lemon juice or other similar acid, because in the last week we've been noticing the dingy blue discoloration that everyone talks about. I'm very disappointed.

mahogany dinnerware
have had 12 sets of these for almost 2 years now. i love them, have had no problems yet. did break a small plate in half when washing (it slipped out of my hand and fell into the sink), so that is understandable. also when washing, had another near accident with a small plate, and it chipped a little. we use these everyday, they are our only sets, and i think they still look great. beautiful color, and very durable. have banged many other pieces which probably should have broken or at least chipped, and they didn't!
have had no problems with the discoloration that many here seem to have. we don't have a dishwasher, so maybe that's why ours are still ok? don't use a microwave often, but when we do, we use these dishes. and we do use a natural/organic soap that has citrus.. so don't understand why some people have problems while others don't. perhaps it really is just dishwashers..
i'm glad i got these before c&b put reviews up on the site, otherwise i would have been too paranoid to buy these!

Great Set for Everyday (use gentle detergent)
We registered for this set and have been using everyday for about 1.5 years. We use them in the fridge, dishwasher, and microwave and have found them to be very durable. Only chipped one piece so far -- this is to be expected with everyday use for any dishware. We too noticed that after about 6 months, the glaze acquired a white-blue tint and looked spotted. C&B customer service was very helpful and replaced the dishes, along with the advice to use a dishwasher detergent free of any lemon/citrus additives, as it can degrade the glazes (apparently this is a problem industry-wide). With the new set, we switched to an all-natural, fragrance-free detergent with no lemon, and haven't had any problems since. The glaze remains lustrous and dark, as in the store. Overall very happy with the set now -- good everyday set at a great price point.

Very disappointed.
We have had this dinnerware set for about 2 years now and are so very dissappointed. We agree 100% with many of the negative reviews. While these plates are and were quite beautiful to start, they are now quite embarassing and in deplorable condition. After following ALL the instructions carefully on maintenance of these plates, the "glaze" on them is now fading and they have a whitish/blue-ish haze and look terrble. They also chip easy and are really not great in the microwave as they heat up quite a bit. Overall just a terrible product offered by C&B and would not recommend purchasing.

Agree with all other reviews about chips
Completely agree with all other reviews - poor quality. 3 years later there are chips and plates that break if used in the microwave. They also very heat in the microwave. Poor quality and do not buy!

love our everyday plates
We registered for this dinnerware as our everyday plates and absolutely love them. The color does vary slightly (though I don't see any "blue"!) from dish to dish, bowl to bowl, mug to mug, but personally, I think it adds to the artistry and beauty of the sets. Nothing has discolored due to acidic foods or detergents and I put them all in the dishwasher.
Out of 12 sets, one salad plate does have a small chip on it, but considering we use these plates, bowls, and mugs every day and when we entertain, I don't think it's a big deal at all.

Lovely dinnerware!
We got this dinnerware for our wedding and we have gotten so many compliments. They look gorgeous on any table and especially at holiday dinners. The salad plates do tend to chip easily...I don't know how, I think maybe when in the dishwasher. So I have had to buy 2-3 replacements for them in the last 2 years...but that's not so bad. I do wish C&B had warranty replacement system of some sort to make it less expensive to replace items when chipped, but we have just been extra careful and it happens so infrequently. But otherwise, they are easy to clean (we put them in the dishwasher all the time) and we are loving the dishes. Going on 2 years of having them and still enjoy them.

Disappointed
I received two sets as a gift from my wedding registry. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed from the beginning. The glaze does fade slightly blue with use. I have several plates that have chipped very easily. The last, most disturbing, the fragile nature of the dishes. I was pouring coffee into a mug and I heard a pop - a crack had spontaneously formed and was pouring coffee from the cup! I am taking these back and hoping to replace the whole set. From previous reviews it doesn't seem that replacing the damaged dishes is enough. I am very saddened by this - I usually have more faith in C&B products.

Not worth the trouble
We have had this set for almost three years and within the first 3 months 1/3 of the pieces had chips on them. It is a beautiful looking set but not very good quality. I have been contemplating buying the replacement plates and bowls or just getting a new set of all together different plates. Its disappointing as we love the look of the mahogony yet hate entertaining even for a casual lunch with chipped plates.

Beautiful but...
I registered for this set for my wedding 3 years ago. It is so beautiful I loved looking at it everyday until I took it to my new home and started to use it. Every time I had to pull out my dishes for a dinner party I had to put them back on the shelf and pull out my fine china! They always look dirty weather I hand wash and hand dry or put in the dishwasher. The dishes discolor and chip very easy. I finally went back and bought the Essential Dinnerware set from Crate and Barrel which for a set of 12 it's only $120.00 and it turned out to be a better quality set. I am so disappointed in the Mahogany set!

Love them!
This tableware is even more gorgeous in person than online! I love them and love the color! So glad I registered for them and got them!

Pretty but not most durable
Beautiful color, but the pieces chip and break easily while washing in the sink or if stacking on the counter. Also, the paint scratches very easily if in contact with sharp object like knife or even a kitty's claws! Handle broke off coffee cup while washing in the sink the first week I had them. I received a set for Christmas gift 9 months ago.

Meh. Pretty but more delicate than you'd think.
This is a fine basic dinnerware set--good color, size, very versatile. I've been extremely disappointed that, after 3 years, every single one of the salad plates is chipped. The rest of the set seems to have held up better. Also, the finish on some (but not all) of the plates has become discolored and faded, giving them a dirty look even when they're clean.

no problems...
We picked these out for our wedding registry and love them. We have had them for about 2 years now and haven't had any problems with the color fading like some people. We also do not have any chips in the dishes, they seem pretty strong and chip-resistant. We use them everyday, I rise them in the sink and then put them in the dishwasher. We get tons of compliments on them whenever we have guests over.

pretty at first...
I have already had to (painstakingly) return an entire set of these dishes/bowls/mugs last year. Every single piece, once washed in the dishwasher, lost their brown color and started to turn blue. It was as if they had been scalded over time by the heat, or put into a kiln oven. The second set is starting to turn blue again, even using a low heat setting. In presentation, they show every water spot, stain, or scratch. Looks like you're serving your guests dirty dishes no matter how hard you polish.
