Calphalon is one of the great names in the U.S. cookware industry. They made their name with their revolutionary hard-anodized aluminum that created cookware with the heat conducting properties of aluminum and the characteristics of a non-reactive metal.
Calphalon began in the early 1960s as the Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company specializing in commercial grade cookware made from spun aluminum. The 60s were a time of great technical innovation in metallurgy due to the space race. Scientist and material engineers developed new materials, like hard-anodized aluminum that would withstand the rigors of space travel. In 1968, Commercial Aluminum Cookware was the first to use hard-anodized aluminum, which was developed for the aerospace industry and apply it to cookware and Calphalon Cookware was born.
Hard-anodizing is a process that uses an electro-chemical bath to create a thick layer on the aluminum surface that is hard, nonreactive, scratch-resistant and virtually nonstick. Calphalon's new cookware brought a level of professional-quality cookware to the home cook.
Calphalon's innovation didn't stop with hard-anodized aluminum. In 1992, they introduced a line of nonstick cookware that quickly came to be known as one of the best available. Other cookware manufacturers quickly followed Calphalon's lead.
Based on customer demand, in 2001, Calphalon introduced their own line of stainless steel cookware that featured tri-ply technology at an attractive price point. Calphalon Stainless Steel Cookware incorporated many thoughtful features that made it easier to use for the home cook. Stay-cool handles and consistent, even heating recommended Calphalon Stainless Steel to a new generation.
In 2013, Calphalon overcame the biggest obstacle to hard-anodized nonstick cookware and developed a line that was dishwasher safe. This made Calphalon a great choice for people looking for cookware that had terrific thermal properties and was easy to maintain.
Calphalon also began to diversify its line by adding new product such as cutlery, bakeware and cooking utensils. Today Calphalon is a well respected brand and the choice for many cooks around the world.
