The Story

This amazing razor-sharp knife is created in Seki City, Japan's 700-year-old center for samurai swords. The "ripple" Damascus rust-free finish is achieved by forging 16 layers of steel on each side. Flexible, stick-resistant blade is stamped, hand-ground to an exceptional 16-degree angle, then hand-polished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful knife I got this knife on sale and had it for a long time before I got the 8" chef's knife. It is a great knife for all the reasons that the 8" is great (sharp, comfortable, retains edge). It's also a great knife for someone who has smaller hands. This might not be the best for larger items (big onions, etc), but it's a great knife when your 8" is too large and the paring knife is too small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Chef's Knife I am a home cook and this is one of my go-to knives when it comes to using a chef's knife. Stays sharp for a good year, then should be re-sharpened for best results. It's light, comfortable, and cuts great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best knife on the market! Shun knives are the best knives you can buy. I use a Shun chef's knife and santoku at home so I can personally attest to their performance. I've also noticed that more chefs on Iron Chef America use Shun Classic knives than any other brand. The blade is super sharp on a Shun knife. It cuts effortlessly which is not only convenient, it's also safer than using a dull blade. The D shaped handle is very easy to grip and comfortable in the hand. Leftys beware: this knife is made for right handers. Shun does make left handed models and they will be clearly labeled as such. You cannot go wrong with this knife.
