The Story

Get back to coffee-brewing basics with the Chemex classic, originally designed by a chemist and inventor and found in the collections of several major museums. Simple engineering in wood and glass (no corrosive elements) produces pure drip coffee with less bitterness—to the extent that the coffee can be refrigerated and reheated without sacrificing flavor. Polished wood collar with insulating leather tie is removable for cleaning. May also be used for tea, iced coffee and beverage infusions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfects my coffee-making ritual I have never owned an electric coffee maker, but have been making coffee each day for years manually with a filter in a plastic drip cone. I always buy whole beans, grind them, and proceed. The ritual is an important part of the routine for me. When I am making coffee for two or more, the Chemex Maker elevates the whole experience. Unlike the plastic cones, which get funky brown residue build-up which doesn't come off with washing, the glass Chemex is fresh and pure every time. With its sleek lines, it is a joy to bring right to the table, and looks so good it's a pity to store it out of sight. It is perfectly beautiful and functional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Way to Brew We added the Chemex to our wedding registry after having coffee brewed personally for us in a similar way at a coffee shop in Portland. The coffee was delicious and we loved the non-traditional method of how to brew.We have a Keurig that we use to make singe serving coffees in travel cups for work in the morning, and now use the Chemex on weekends when we have time to enjoy several cups around the house. We are never going to use another brew method when making multiple cups at once. The coffee tastes pure and is bitter-free, as well as free from any coffee grounds. We highly recommend this product to anyone looking to enjoy the coffee brewing (and drinking) process!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase I was looking forward to receiving the Chemex and it does not disappoint! Now we don't have to worry about plastic leaching into the coffee, etc. Besides the coffee tasting fabulous, the Chemex looks simple, elegant and saves space. I just use my baby bottle brush to clean it. We've only had it for 3 weeks, so I can't comment on durability yet. As for capacity, it makes 4 regular mugs of coffee easily, maybe more. The reviewer who says it only makes 3 mugs might be talking about big travel mugs. Now I always look forward to my coffee in the morning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious Coffee! I was eager to try this unique coffee maker after getting tired of using my Mr. Coffee maker. I'm definitely very happy with this purchase. While this coffee maker does require you to stand there and pour the water in yourself, it really does make some of the best coffee I've had. Normally, I put a splash of milk and half a teaspoon of sugar into my daily coffee, but the coffee that comes out of this maker is so smooth and not bitter at all, that I can just drink it black. I would highly recommend this to anyone with the patient to brew a great cup of coffee!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish yet Useful! The Chemex is great if you're looking for a non-plastic alternative to a coffee-maker. It also has less parts than a french press, making cleaning an easier process. Be sure to rinse it every day to avoid build up in the base, because it can be difficult to access and clean without specific tools. The other advantage is that all grounds are strained, versus a french press where you still get residue left in your cup of joe. Finally, it is a stylish addition to any counter top!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delicious if you have the time This makes delicious coffee for sure. Removes all bitterness and there's a very nice ritual involved in using this type of coffeemaker. The downside? If you follow the directions, it takes about 10 full minutes to make 5 cups of coffee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious Coffee! I love this pot. Makes smooth, delicious coffee. A necessary purchase for anyone who loves their java. And it's a pretty little pot - like a sculpture in my kitchen! Don't forget to pick up the filters, and also a bottle brush makes it easier to clean the bottom section!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best way to make coffee... My husband and I absolutely love the Chemex 8 Cup Coffee Maker. We are loyal to our Bodum French Press, but find ourselves making a couple pots each morning just to satisfy our coffee craving. With the Chemex, not only can we make more at one time, but it provides a whole new coffee experience. Using our favorite beans, coffee made with the Chemex is never bitter, true to its description! Such a great investment for the coffee lover.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Press Vs. Chemix Like many other reviews, I also had a French Press prior to receiving my Chemix. I prefer the latter because there are no grounds in my coffee (NONE!) and I think the lack of heated metal (as used in the French press filter) creates a better taste!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A classic! I love this coffee maker. Its simplicity is a thing of beauty. I had one back in the '70s and I was thrilled to see that Crate and Barrel is selling this classic today. Everyone should own one.
