The Story

Conceived with the thought of friends and family coming together and enjoying good food, wine and conversation, our exclusive Welcome collection, designed by Aaron Probyn, is informed by an encompassing, multicultural mindset. The dinnerware showcases artisanal stoneware shapes glazed in white. These pieces join our extended Welcome family of stoneware, wood, glass and metal serving pieces, glassware and flatware in a tableau of beautifully contrasting color accented with warm metallics, colored glass and oxidized metals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique place setting I bought this set a month ago and I love the unique shapes of each dish. I am mixing dark grey and orange accessories with them. Lots of compliments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for me! This product is not "perfect", but that's what I love about them! They have character! I love the asymmetrical, natural and organic qualities. It's like having hand-made pottery. I have open cupboards and they are delightfully on display.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but not the color shown The set is beautiful (I ordered everything except the pitcher, mini bowls, and pinch pots), and has the handmade look I was after. However, they are not white or creamy white at all. The glaze is bluish grey, and it's not subtle. It's a significant color difference from the photo on C&B. I'm hoping to warm up to them more, as I don't want to deal with repacking and shipping them back. I do like the speckles in the glaze and the fact that no dish is the same and no dish is perfect. I have not run them through the dishwasher yet, so I can't comment on their durability, although they are heavy enough that I would hope they would hold up.C&B: please either rename the collection to reflect the actual color of the dishes, or readjust the photos on the site. The dishes are not white, cream, or anything close. They're bluish grey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Each Piece is Unique!! We received these for our wedding and are very pleased with them. They are heavy weight, which I translate into durability. Each piece looks like it was handcrafted individually. No one piece is exactly identical. Now because of that, they don't all stack perfectly in the cupboard but I don't mind that. These may not be the pieces for someone who likes very sleek stuff. The individuality does mean that there might be slight bumps or pocks on them. I find them to be unique but I will admit that I had to double check to make sure that there weren't cracks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Color off and poor workmanship/imperfections I was expecting a set of dishes that were organic feeling, uniquely created to resemble a handmade look ... but these were full of imperfections where the glazing wasn't present (it just looked bad, not charming) and the speckles look dirty rather than earthy. My four year old saw them as I pulled them out and said, "ewwww, they're all dirty" ... my husband remarked something similar until I explained they were supposed to be that way. The color was also very disappointing ... instead of a fresh white they look like a very cool and dingy gray. Not at all what I was expecting from the photos (and my monitor is color calibrated). All are going back. :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Organic Table Top My husband and I received a set of the Welcome White dinnerware as a wedding gift. We fell in love with the organically shaped dinnerware when registering and couldn't wait to display them on our Galvin Table (also bought from Crate and Barrel). I love that the bottom on the dishes are unfinished and have a different texture than the rest of the dish. We have enjoyed some of our first meals together as a married couple on our new table, using our beautiful dishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really unique dinnerware I had always wanted white dinnerware because I think it makes whatever you're eating stand out. However, most white dinnerware I've seen has been a little more modern or classic than my personal style, which tends toward rustic. The welcome white dinnerware set, however, is perfect! The handmade nature of the dishes and the unglazed bottoms are so unique looking, yet they're still white, unlike most handmade pottery which tends to be made in deeper colors. I love them. I got a set of eight, and despite each piece being slightly different in shape, they stack nicely. The only thing I don't love is that there is a Crate and Barrel stamp on the bottom of each piece - wish they had used a sticker that could be removed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Welcome White items not as pictured. One should be aware that the Welcome White dinnerware is not as pictured in that the glazing can be very imperfect, with the brown as seen on the bottom appearing throughout the glazed part of the piece. The effect is that the pieces look as if they have dried bean dip stuck to the bowl/plate. Rather than looking "rustic" it looks more like poor workmanship, especially as some of the pieces are perfectly fine. I bought a set of 8 plates, bowls etc., via the web site but will be returning half if not all for properly glazed pieces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous imperfections I bought a set of 6 of this beautiful dinnerware about 4 months ago with a gift certificate given to me for my 30th birthday. Each dish is unique from the next. They are similar in hue but speckles and strokes on each item differ. I love the durable, clay-like bottom for it's look and strength. They are great for intimate dinners for just us at home AND when we have friends over for special occasions.I highly recommend this style of dinnerware to anyone with a love for unfinished beauty!
