The Story

An ingenious classic for modern times, Span is our slender gateleg table that opens to a generous 65½" width to accommodate up to four guests, seats two with one leaf open, and folds to a slim 9½" width to stow away until your next gathering. Crafted with utilitarian wood construction, an oak veneer tabletop and black lacquer finish, Mark Daniel's compact design can also function as a sleek console against a wall. The Span Black Gateleg Dining Table is a Crate and Barrel exclusive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Size and Very Functional! This table was originally in our condo, and has seamlessly transitioned into our new home. We keep it set for two during the week, and expand out for weekend dinner parties. It is solidly built and is very easy to switch sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a small space I bought this table for my apartment. I have an inset where a table can fit in the kitchen but it had to be square shaped. This table is perfect for my small space. I have one side open normally then I open the other side when I have guests. This table is beautiful and easy to use. I'd recommend this for anyone with a small space or for anyone who could use an extra table. It's so great because it folds up so easily and stores nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Span Black Gateleg Dining Table I bought this for my son and daughter. I thought it might not be tough enough for a family with a child. My son is a big man, so I also thought his legs might be tangled up under the table, but he said he has no problem. It turns out it is tough and comfortable. The locking and unlocking hardware is sturdy and best of all, it looks fantastic. It is the go-to solution to small space dining kitchen issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for additional seating I purchased this table just before the Christmas holidays for additional seating. It functions well for this purpose. Not sure it would withstand everyday dining and use. Planning to use for crafting as needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solution for our guest quarters! We are more than pleased! It is the perfect solution to our guest quarters! It can be tucked away when room is not in use and can be used for just two but open up to more whenever needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fantastic table for a small living space My husband and I were delighted when we received this as a wedding gift and two years later we're still excited! Fantastic for smaller kitchen areas & an easy table to store away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this table Love this. I wanted a table that wasn't obtrusive in a small space so I keep it folded in the corner and can easily expand it when I am hosting dinner. Biggest downside is that you can see all the scratches that it gets, but I bought the black table so have used marker where needed to cover it up for now. Great table for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my condo I recently downsized to less than 900 square feet. My kitchen table didn't work in my new space. I wanted to walk freely from the living space into the kitchen area. Everything I looked at was just wrong. I finally realized my real problem was I wanted to be able to sit in my recliner and have an unobstructed view of my patio through my sliding glass door. This table is perfect. It is against the wall to the side of my recliner when not in use. I found some nice folding chairs that fit in a closet. I love my view. The condo feels much bigger than it is. If I have company, I set it up in a flash. No one, so far, has even noticed that there isn't a table cluttering the area. Its great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great dining table This is the ideal dining table for a small apartment, smart design and quality I am very happy with my choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT for small spaces! We were looking for a smart looking dining table that is great for use by 2 people but has options for expansion - and reduction! This table has it all! It is a great size for the two of us with one leaf up but with 2 - could accommodate 6 or more (if you squish). Plus, if both leaves are dropped, it collapses to almost nothing! Totally what we needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! Perfect addition to my small NYC apartment. Folds up small but expands depending on how many people come over to eat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Space saver, good quality Probably the easiest assembly ever...aka no assembly required! The table came already folded up in a box. The color is really rich and I like the wood grain. You need 2 people to move the table. The locking mechanism is secure, so you can expand the table and not feel it's going to collapse on your dinner party.
