The Story

Get back to coffee-brewing basics with the Chemex, originally designed by a chemist and inventor and found in the collections of several major museums. This compact three-cup version features simple engineering in wood and glass (no corrosive elements) produces pure drip coffee with less bitterness—to the extent that the coffee can be refrigerated and reheated without sacrificing flavor. Polished wood collar with insulating leather tie is removable for cleaning. May also be used for tea, iced coffee and beverage infusions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cup of Joe Before purchasing the chemex, my husband and I tried the French press and various coffee machines and agree that the chemex makes the smoothest, tastiest cup of coffee with no grain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coffee and show piece! I bought this on a recommendation from a friend who said it made the best coffee she has ever made herself. She was correct! Not only was the coffee delicious, it was quick and easy, and it looks great sitting on our counter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect gift My friend the hard-core coffee snob broke her carafe -- unfortunately for her, but fortunately for me, because it happened right before Christmas. Chemex is the only brand she'll use, and now that she's downsized, 3 cups is exactly the right size. It won't get you through a big brunch, but for a quiet breakfast alone or with a friend, it's just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and delicious custom coffee maker We love custom-made coffee and the Chemex 3-cup makes it easy to enjoy at home, any time of the day or night. The crystal-clear glass carafe with its wood collar and leather tie is a piece of sculpture for the kitchen. Still, form follows function of this gem. It's delightful to hand-craft your own cup of coffee with the Chemex. It's the perfect size for two, easy to handle, and the results are fantastic. (We found the half-moon filters awkward to use, however.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful coffee maker It makes a good coffee first and then it will do a great job as a decoration piece in your kitchen. I sent one to my friend and he's got all the compliments when he opened it in his office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Function plus style I heard about pour overs and read many reviews regarding which product to try. I decided on chemex as I liked it visually as well as the comments were enticing "the best cup of coffee inever had" I have to agree, every cup is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Uncomplicated Cup of coffee I bought this for my 18 year old son to take to college and he loves it. Easy to use, filters are affordable and the coffee tastes great. There is a small learning curve as to how much coffee to use, but once you figure that out, easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from reputation and and size This has always had a great reputation. Now, it has a size working for it. I can make one cup at a time and take in the aroma and taste of the experience. It really does not get any more personal than this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best coffee maker ever. The best tasting coffee maker I have found - and I have tried the Nespresso and much more pricey single serve systems and this is still my favorite. Looks gorgeous on the brunch table too:)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great coffee, easy to use I've used a Chemex coffee pot for years but using the large filters for my morning two cup of coffees, wasting paper, as I'd use a separate filter for each cup. To appreciate Chemex's claim that its filters really are better, I recommend using them for a week or two, then going back to the thinner ones. I did this accidently, because I was out of the other filters, and discovered coffee really does taste better with their thick filters. So when I saw this 3-cup Chemex, I bought it. It uses smaller filters, so they're less expensive for 100. I also save because I use one filter to make two cups. It's now part of my mornin' Joe routine. Great coffee, easy to use and no involved-cleaning routine. If, however, you like your second cuppa piping hot, this may not be the set-up for you. I use a tea towel that I wrap around the pot after pouring my first cup, and I leave the filter in, sort of like a lid, to keep heat in too. I use a Hario oil-can type spout kettle, though, for the top is rather narrow for a regular kettle to safely add water to, I also keep the Hario on the boil, between water top ups.The only thing I'd change is I'd make the tactile wood grip a little wider. I have small hands but even I have to hold it carefully so as not to touch hot glass.
