Kicking off the holiday shopping and entertaining season with a perfect mix of sophistication and fun, we recently invited customers in New York and Washington, DC to join us for some “Shop, Sip & Swing” holiday cheer.

The evening’s highlight was an intimate performance by renowned jazz vocalist and guitarist, John Pizzarelli, who performed selections from his new album Midnight McCartney for a delighted crowd.

Pizzarelli also signed copies of his new dinner-party-perfect CD, Midnight McCartney, featuring the music of Sir Paul McCartney.

Guests mingled and enjoyed savory bites.

James Beard-nominated mixologist Maxwell Britten served up delicious signature cocktails.

To bring a little ‘jazz and cocktails’ inspiration to your holiday entertaining, here is the recipe for Maxwell’s festive “Spicy Mistletoe” applejack cocktail.

  • 1.5 oz quality applejack
  • ¾ oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. cinnamon syrup see recipe below
  • 1 tablespoon chile-spiced cranberry jam see recipe below
  • Garnishes: cocktail skewer with 3 fresh cranberries and 1 sprig rosemary

Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice.
  3. Shake and then strain into your favorite double old fashioned glass.
  4. Add ice.
  5. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig and a cocktail skewer threaded with three fresh cranberries.

  • Zest of 1 lime divided
  • 1 dried arbol chile crushed in a spice mill
  • 2 cups of cranberries
  • 2 crushed cloves
  • 1/2 pint of sugar

Instructions
  1. Add cranberries to saucepan, add water, just enough to cover the surface area of the cranberries.
  2. Pour sugar over and bring to a boil. Once the boil begins, add spices, citrus zest and chile.
  3. Lower heat to medium and continue to cook.
  4. After reducing for 45 minutes, remove from heat and run an immersion blender through the hot jam to smooth out the texture.
  5. Let chill overnight.
