Ready to give your bedding a makeover? Let’s start with the basics. We’ve partnered with Kim and Scott Vargo of Yellow Brick Home to demonstrate how to build a better night’s sleep.
Almost ten years ago, Scott and I upgraded from a full to a queen-sized bed. It felt so luxurious! I remember the day we spent taking measurements in our small city apartment, making sure that those extra inches would clear the walls – and that we’d be able to fit a mattress of that size up the common hallway stairs! We loved that mattress very, very much, but just this month, we upgraded once again — to a king. We’ve since moved on from that city apartment, and we now have a bedroom that can accommodate a larger bed! A new bed also meant new bedding, of course, and we couldn’t wait to dive in and choose the fluffiest, coziest basics we could find.
The leap up in size felt so different – so exciting. A larger duvet! Larger pillows! We clicked through all of the bedding options that Crate and Barrel had to offer online, reading the reviews and choosing the foundation that would give us better nights and even better mornings.
Until recently, we’d been putting our bedroom makeover on the back burner. As a result, any out of town travel that required a hotel stay made us downright giddy! The idea of those big hotel pillows and layers of sheets were something we wanted to replicate at home, and so we started with four king sized pillows. Due to our own allergies – and our pups’ sensitive skin! – we opted for down alternative. To keep them looking and feeling great, we picked up some pillow protectors, too.
For these long Chicago winters, we’ve always been partial to warm white duvets. After breezing through the reviews on the down alternative duvet insert, I was sold. Not only did it receive kudos for keeping others toasty on cold evenings, but it kept them just as cool as the weather transitioned into spring.
Everything that comes into our home must pass pet inspection, and I think it’s safe to say that we did well! Our little Chunk made herself right at home.
To complete our jumping off point and after setting up a box spring on this adjustable king-sized bed frame, we topped that off with the Matelasse bed skirt. It’s thick and sturdy, and at about an inch off of the floor, fingers crossed it won’t attract too much cat hair. (With a four pet household, that’s always a concern!)
Now that we’ve laid the groundwork, the next task is picking out the pretty white linens that will complete the look. Just like our favorite hotel beds, we’ve always been partial to bright white bedding, but we also hope to inject some tiny details to bring it all to life.
I’ll be back next month with the completed look!
