Product Description

Karnes puts to rest the idea that sleeper sofas can't look sleek or sleep in comfort. Tucked inside this tailored, mid-century frame is the firm support of a bed-quality, foam mattress that opens effortlessly with a patented spring-loaded mechanism. Truly a sofa and truly a bed, Karnes is the "gold standard" in sleepers with a roomy queen-size, four-inch-thick foam mattress supported on a wood platform—that means no coiled innersprings or uncomfortable metal bars. Come morning, simply slide the mattress back into place in an accordion motion. Slim track arms, generous seat cushions and buttonless tufted back cushions are upholstered in a soft, but extremely durable, synthetic fabric that can stand up to use day and night, in family rooms, casual living rooms and studio apartments.

Karnes 71 Queen Sleeper Sofa is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this sleeper sofa! We looked at sofas on several websites including crate and barrel, room and board, etc. and agonized before we bought. We visited our local crate and barrel store and they had one in stock there so we got to see the fabric (Heritage Storm) and sit on it before buying. This sofa is on the firm side which we like. I do not like to sink down into a sofa. It is well made, looks modern and the fabric is beautiful. I've had a little bit of a problem with the bottom cushions pushing out, but it isn't that much of a problem to change my mind about my purchase. We haven't had any overnight guests yet so can't comment on the comfort of the sleeper, but overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from minimalist and high quality I LOVE this sleeper sofa. It is in our office/guest bedroom. Room is approx 12 x 11 - small but this fits perfectly with clean lines - it does not overtake the space. Before I purchased i read the reviews regarding slipping cushions and i just dont get that because i tried pushing them out when i was sitting - not possible. I believe they are velcro-ed onto the sofa! The mattress is what you would expect in a higher-end sofa. I looked around in big box furniture stores and encountered similar mattresses but the sofa styles were hideous. This is hip and sleek. Very comfortable to sit on. I like a firm cushion and dont like to sink into it. Hope you buy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great investment! We bought this sleep sofa for our office and it is definitely a great purchase so far. It is firm but comfortable both as a sleeper and a sofa. We love the contemporary look, the polished-looking fabric and the functionality of the pull-out mechanism. We are looking forward to enjoying it for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE!!! I have looked high and low for a chic updated sleeper sofa with a foam mattress. I LOVE this sofa. It is in my "yoga" room so I do get to enjoy lounging on it occasionally. I find it very comfortable; I love the fabric, and it's a perfect fit in my space. You won't find a better sofa sleeper for this price that's as well constructed and good looking too. C&B's customer service is 5 star also.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seat is too high I bought it two months ago. It seems to be comfortable for sleeping in. As a sofa, it is OK but a little hard and too high with respect to my other armchairs in the living room. This is the only thing that bothers me. If I have people visiting, the people on the sofa will feel that they are much higher than the rest.I have been wondering if I should exchange it for another sofa because of this so I just compared its measurements with those of the Reston, Axis II and Davis. My apartment is small so the Karnes seems to be the best option: the Axis is too deep when the sleeper is open, the Reston is too wide, and the Davis is way too deep when the sleeper is open. I have looked for a long time, so I guess I'm keeping it. I wish the seat was not so high though :-(Finally, I'm pretty tall (5'8") and I can't reach the floor when I'm sitting down. I consulted the salesperson and she indicated that it is supposed to be used with additional decorative cushions in the back. Let's see how it goes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Karnes 71 inch queen sleeper sofa in indigo I bought this couch only about 19 months ago and it is only used a couple times a week as it is in our vacation apartment. It is not worth the money it costs! Pillows slip all of the time so you end up sitting strangely as you need to slouch to sit as the seat of the cushions slip forward constantly. In addition, slight coffee spills on this fabric end up as bad stains (will need to call a professional cleaner as this is not a washable fabric - I only hope a pro can get the stain out). Definitely not worth the price! One can do better. If you do decide to go with this, I recommend getting it in leather if that is possible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from cute, but don't buy it! Overall, I believe the couch quality is not as advertised by Crate and Barrel. It is advertised as a quality piece of functional furniture. In getting it home and actually using it we have discovered it has major flaws in design as described below. Naturally, we are very unsatisfied with the quality of this product. We bought this couch on 09/07/2015, but we didn't receive it until 10/13/15. We bought the 2 cushion 71" full-sized version. Before we bought this, we did a tremendous amount of research on a pull-out couches. This one looked (by far) the nicest. We don't have a Crate and Barrel in our city, so we traveled three hours to Crate and Barrel to see the couch before buying. We tried it out and it seemed lovely. Based on past experiences, we trusted in the Crate and Barrel brand and so we bought the couch that day. Here are the three main issues we've had with it since October 2015 and why I cannot recommend buying this piece of furniture: 1. The cushions are easily indented/go flat so not very comfortable (they have that dip you would expect a 10 year old couch to have). Remember, I have not even had this couch for a year and this is already happening. We are only a two person (adult) household. I weigh 125 and my husband weighs about 180, so we are small people. I do not have any faith that this couch will hold up. 2. The bed mattress also gets easily indented/goes flat. Same comments as above about the longevity of the mattress. The reason for the above is probably because neither the cushions or the mattress are very thick. Because of what they are trying to do here, they have unfortunately eliminated the basic function of both a couch and a bed. I imagine they were also concerned with the weight of the couch (since it is a heavy beast already, but unfortunately this is a poor design if you actually want to use it). You could buy a thick topper to make the bed more comfortable, but of course that would be an extra cost for the buyer.3. The cushions slide out, they will not stay in place while you are sitting on the couch. This was particularly embarrassing the first time it happened because I had people over and my couch cushions are sliding out from under my guests! Imagine if I had told them they were sitting on a 3K couch that can't even perform the basic function of a couch. Overall, this is the worst part of this couch because you have to constantly adjust the cushion when you are sitting on it. When I bought this couch, I did not notice this in any of the reviews. Now there are quite a few complaining about this. Based on this, I believe this is a design flaw and these couches should be either recalled or we should be sent better quality cushions that do not slide out.The other major issue did not have to do with the couch, but with the freight delivery. But my review has already been declined once by Crate and Barrel, so I've deleted that part in case that is what bothered them in my first review (they did not tell me why my review was declined). I will just say, it was a terrible experience. What we like: -The look/styling (when no one is sitting on it) -No bar for the bed (probably the #1 selling point for most people) I hate to write a bad review, but as I mentioned I researched this and I really wish someone had written this review before I bought this couch. From the website it looks like Crate and Barrel does not offer returns after about a month. But these issues are not things you will catch in that timeframe (unless you are constantly on the couch). This is why I am writing this review. I have not called C&B about these issues either because the warranty/return is so short on the piece. We have several other Crate and Barrel pieces and tons of other items we have bought over the years and we love them all. It's so unfortunate because we are just so disappointed with this purchase. Overall, we are very unsatisfied with our purchase of the Kearns and do not recommend it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Firm Sleeper We bought this sofa sleeper at a crate&barrel store and ordered it in a custom color. It was delivered within five weeks and we have had it for six weeks.Although we tried it out in the store we did not realize just how hard the mattress would be for our guests to sleep on.We have spent an additional $250 for topper to make this comfortable. If it wasn't a custom color we would have returned it. It does sit high but that is not a big drawback. The best part of this sofa sleeper is it looks very nice and it is only 71 inches with a queen size bed which makes it easy to place in most rooms. It was not inexpensive so we hope with the additional money spent for a topper, and space to store the topper, we will have it for a long time. The sales person and the delivery men were excellent. Just an overly firm bed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So uncomfortable Bought this sofa in October of 2015. The couch itself is uncomfortable, the cushions constantly slide off and have to be pushed back, it drives me crazy. The cushions are already sinking in- we plan on bringing this issue to crate and barrel, but haven't had a chance yet. It is easy to pull out and put away, but the pull out bed is very uncomfortable also. Not worth the money at all

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable We were looking for a sofa sleeper that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. This seems to fit the bill, it felt comfortable in the store and can't wait to get it in our timber loft for occasional guest use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sleeper! What I like most about this sleeper sofa is that not only is it the most comfortable sleeper sofa I have ever laid on, it is also so attractive and stylish as a sofa. Super great styling and perfect for our guest room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect size, nice & firm I purchased this about a month ago. It's the perfect size for a small studio. The mattress is firm & the whole piece is solid & well made.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pillow Slip I purchased this sofa several months ago and initially loved it. It is high, firm and a great pull-out bed. However, the cushions constantly slip out and you have to readjust them every 20 minutes to keep sitting on the sofa. As a bed it is very convenient, but it is very sub-par as a sofa. For the price of this sofa that is unacceptable.
