Halloween DIY Yarn Craft

Hi friends! I’m thrilled to be here to share a Halloween version of my simple yarn art.  A couple months ago, I had the privilege of hosting a Craft Event and installing a window display at the South Coast Plaza Land of Nod store. Now the time of year to add a little spook to your home. I’ve made a simple yarn piece with orange, black, white and peach yarn and added a couple plastic spiders to get in the Halloween spirit.

Supplies:

• Yarn is a few different colors
• Scissors
• Painters tape
• 1/4″ dowel cut to a 12″ length
• Craft paint and paint brush
• Plastic spiders

Start by taping off the ends of the dowel and paint the tips one of the colors from your selection of yarn.  I chose to paint the coral/peach color because it’s not often a Halloween color and I like that unexpected element.

This is a really simple process and the pictures should explain how you attach the lengths of yarn to the dowel.  Cut the yarn twice as long as you’d like it to be for the finished piece.  Fold the yarn in half and place the folded loop behind the dowel.

Now, loop the ends of the yarn through the loop, bringing the loop to the front of the dowel.

Pull the ends of the yarn tight.

And repeat, over and over and over. Be sure to push the looped yarn snug together to get a nice full look to your finished yarn art piece.

There’s a lot of different things you can do with the ends of the yarn. This off centered inverted V is my favorite. You can see a lot more example here on some of the samples I created for the Nod window display.

I displayed my yarn piece grouped with an felt EEK banner I made last year after seeing this post, some twigs I painted black, a couple of owls from my collection, I mannequin hand I bought at the flea market and a few more plastic spiders.  It’s creepy but not over the top scary. Just the right amount of spook.
