Holiday Family Traditions: Festive Kids Room Decor
Post By Rebecca Green of Not-So-SAHM
I grew up in Chicago where, as many Land of Nod friends can attest, it gets reallllly cold in the winter. So I looked forward every year to my mom pulling out flannel sheets for the bed. But besides the function of the practice, I loved that the sheet change coincided with my mom decorating our bedrooms for the holidays. The flannel sheets were always cute winter wonderland scenes and she added a garland and fun lights above our beds as well. And she continues to do so to this day. I love when I get a chance to take my kids back home for the holidays and I get to tuck them into flannel sheets in my old bedroom, their little sleepy holiday eyes nodding closed under a twinkling set of snowflake lights.
We haven’t been able to get back to Chicago the past few years, so this year, I decided to carry on the tradition in our own house. We’ve lived in our home for just a few years so the kids’ rooms are still relatively new (you might remember I posted on the kids’ rooms here and here), but a few simple festive additions really spruced them up for the holidays!
For Cami, I added Candy Forest Flannel sheets to her fabulous Jenny Lind Bed. I think the print paired up so cute with her Ahmaze Quilt too. Want a little tip to make any bed look like a hotel bed? Do a huge fold over of your comforter or quilt with the pattern-side of the sheet and tuck everything in real tight. Like real tight. Instant clean lines for a hotel feel. I also added the cute little forest friend pillow to top it off.
I replaced Cam’s regular garlands with a Bright Festive Felt Christmas Garland and a snowflake garland. And I wound a set of twinkle lights through as well. She loved it!
Kane has been obsessed with bunny rabbits ever since a whole family showed up in their school garden, so I knew the Bunny Flannel sheets would be perfect for him. And the Holiday Crest Throw Pillow gave him another something soft to curl up for reading (plus the colors look so cute with his Explorer Playhouse). I added some fun lights for him too along with a white felt and Holiday Lights Garland.
Such a fun easy way to continue one of my favorite holiday family traditions!
Rebecca is a mom to two young kiddos and, in her spare time (ha!), likes to pretend she’s a back-up dancer, craft cocktails, and run long distances. A relatively recent SAHM, she blogs family-friendly activities, DIYs and celebration fun at Not-So-SAHM.
A Note from Nod: Our holiday flannel sold out faster than expected.
