Broiled Oranges with Honey Yogurt and Granola

It’s bitter cold around here and that can make our day to day, or even our weekends challenging. There are a lot of layers and waterproof clothing to make it out the door, even if it’s just for a quick run to the park or an after dinner walk to get the jiggles out.

The one thing that is a highlight though in winter is the abundance of citrus. It’s sunny, sweet and fresh and just brightens your day. Rather than just throwing a clementine in your lunch box or drinking a glass of fresh pressed juice, spend an extra 7 minutes on the weekend and make these lovely broiled oranges to accompany your yogurt and granola – trust me, your kids will love it and if you are planning a brunch these will be the star.

  • Naval and or blood oranges
  • Brown and/or white sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
  • Plain greek yogurt
  • Honey
  • Granola

Heat broiler. Cut ends of oranges so they can stand straight. Cut oranges in half. Put orange halves with cut side up on a rimmed cookie sheet and dab extra liquid with a paper towel. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and ginger and pop into oven on top rack for 7-10 minutes until sugar caramelizes and fruit gets a little puffy. Remove from oven and let cool a little.

While oranges are cooking, arrange your yogurt and drizzle it with a generous amount of honey. Serve broiled oranges with honeyed yogurt and granola.

*You can pre-cut the wedges on the oranges if you wish so they release easier when you eat them. You can also broil these ahead of time and store them in the fridge, they are good served cold as well – easy weekday breakfast right there! Enjoy!
