Nursery Finishing Touches

Planning the foundation of a nursery is pretty straightforward. If you’re starting from scratch, you’ll need a crib, a changing station, a rocker or glider, and storage (definitely storage). These are the basics that will get you a functional nest for your new baby. Things start to get tricky when you it comes to adding the finishing touches – those important details that evoke the personality of mom and dad and their aspirations for their bundle of joy.

Wall décor is an easy go-to for customizing a nursery design. Simply hanging a colorful print above the crib can turn a room from generic to oh-so-special. Also essential is picking out bedding. Whether you’re looking to stick with a gender-neutral design or go all-out with a theme, bedding is a great way to bring color and personality into a space. To cap off the design, adding an area rug and throw pillows is the perfect finishing touch to tie the room together. I like to think of the floor as the “fifth wall”, so if you’ve played it safe with neutral wall paint, a rug can be a great opportunity to introduce a bold statement.
