Pure and simple. Clean Asian shapes have a thin, elegant feel and sophisticated color palette of subtle celadon and matte black. Porcelain is fired at a very high temperature, with the cooling process creating the beautiful crackling of the glossy glaze. This traditional artistic effect is food safe, though it may discolor when exposed to foods that can potentially stain until it is cleaned in an automatic dishwasher.

Artists and Designers

United States

Working in a studio located on a narrow strip of land surrounded by Lake Michigan, designer Kathleen Wills bears witness to the ways in which wind, water and the forces of nature change and mute colors. In Europe, where she and her husband spend part of the year, she finds the experience entirely different. These contrasts are essential to the way in which Wills approaches her designs, which she describes as clean and modern with historic references and subtle details.

A graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in industrial design, Wills continued her studies, learning furniture design at the London College of Furniture and graphic design at the Kent Summer School in Switzerland. She worked as a senior designer for a number of international design firms before establishing her private design studio, specializing in product, graphic and interior design.

Kita Dinner Plate is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fragile I love the look of these plates. A couple years into this purchase I am wishing I had not gotten them. They break and chip much too easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Simplicity The purchase of the Kita dinnerware (8 place settings) was an excellent choice. I like the clean lines and design of the plates, bowls, and mugs. They have performed well in both the dishwasher and the microwave as well as looking great on the dinner table.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Quality Ever The mugs fell apart instantly and we returned them immediately. The bowls have lasted, somehow, but the plates you need to treat like a nuclear bomb. Do not microwave, eat off of or put anything on them. This set is exclusively for viewing pleasure only as they crack and stain easily. If you want a nice looking dinner set that you can't enjoy, this is your set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After 7 years I still get compliments I've owned these dishes for 7 years and they do still look fantastic and hold up well, even with daily use and washing them in a dishwasher. I've never seen them chip and I love how they can be casual or elegant. They make a table look beautiful and sophisticated. I always get compliments on them!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful but not durable After a month of light use, one of the plates developed a crack running from the edge to the center and makes creaking sounds when I move it - like loose ceramic rubbing against each other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just the right size I bought this for my boyfriend to use for his plating food for parties and he is glad I got it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and Easy to Maintain! I bought the first one around half a year ago and just got another one. Really love this plate. Elegant design, not too heavy, easy to clean, dishwasher and microwave safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful set! I love that it can go from everyday to special occassion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from stain easily and chip These were beautiful to start with, but over time, the stains seep into the crackle finish. Many of them are not food stains but look like dark fingerprints - not sure if it's mold. We got them for our wedding and they are too expensive to just ditch so we started soaking them in bleach, which helped. We were able to exchange a few at the store, but they are actually a different shade of cream than what we have. Several dishes have chipped as well. So disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful dishes I got these dishes from my wedding registry a few years ago. They look simple and beautiful. The cracked finish is a nice look that makes them more interesting than other solid color dish sets. I just wish the handle for the mug was a little bit larger so it would be easier to hold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful but they don't last We registered for these for our wedding 4 years ago, and we're now throwing plates away because they all seem to be cracking in half. I noticed a crack down the middle of a dinner plate the other day and literally snapped it in half with almost no effort. Now we have to think about using older stuff or buying all new plates and bowls -- again, after just 4 years! Extremely disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful, but a little fragile I have the whole set of kita dinnerware. I love the simple and modern design, but a couple of the plates have cracked or chipped from daily use and putting them in the dishwasher. You need to be a little careful when handling this dinnerware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good plates I know there have been a lot of complaints about these dining sets but we have been pretty happy with them. In terms of the discoloration that folks have complained about, we have had that happen but it goes away. We have had chipping on one plate, and the handle fell off of a mug (C&B replaced it). The upshot is that if you really like this pattern, then I would say go for it, but they're certainly not the best quality dishes on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TImeless I love this dinnerware set. It definitely timeless, but modern. The off-white color goes with any table decoration, runner, and season and has a faint cackle pattern on it that makes them unique. They are durable and washable. I've been extremely happy with them and would buy them over and over again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical yet elegant Love this dinnerware. It's simple enough to be used every day yet makes for an elegant table. I'm a fan!
