Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Wok on the 2nd try We received this from our wedding registry and were really excited to try it out! Same issue as other reviewers..the coating wouldn't come off (followed directions exactly). It burned the bottom of the pan and left a very strange smell. I took it back to Crate and Barrel and they gave me a new one with very little effort - props to customer service! On the second try, the coating came off and the pan didn't burn; I don't think this is the greatest wok out there, but the husband seems content with it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy Like the other reviews, I too had issues with the removal of the coating. I have tried for a year to get it off, and I think I have, but I can't help but feel the food still has some kind of chemical/metal taste. Additionally, I carefully hand wash after every use, and the item still rusts! I finally had to throw it away because it was completely rusted. Look for a different wok!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful & Versitile I was delighted to give this as a gift recently. The heat is even, the handle and accessories sturdy and high quality. It's a great addition to the "line up" of pots and pans used for everyday meals. Surprisingly versatile uses! Excellent buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wok coating is nearly impossible to remove I followed the instructions completely, multiple times, but there was simply no removing the sticky coating on the wok.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Wok is awesome once it's cleaned and seasoned You must first clean the manufacturers protective coating off first. Many woks are protected with various coatings (wax, machine oil, grease) to keep them from rusting before the first use. I’ve heard the coating can vary in color as well; mine have all been grayish, but apparently there are blue and yellow ones too. Some may have residual metal powder. Regardless of whatever is on your wok, it needs to be completely removed before “the seasoning” can commence.Steel Wool Scrub. This is a very common way to remove the gunk: Scrub thoroughly with a pad of steel wool, hot water and mild dish soap. This process may require more than one pad.Troubleshooting: If that doesn’t work, I have used a green, heavy-duty scrubbing pad before, and it worked great. This approach may scratch your wok, but think of her as a woman over 40: wokking (like life) is crazy-fast and blazing hot, she’s going to see some action, but those battle scars will be part of her charm. How to Season Your New Wok.Now that your wok is clean, it needs to be seasoned, to build a patina: i.e. the protective covering that prevents rust from forming and food from sticking. A well-seasoned wok is black. (When using the stove method). After the work has been thoroughly cleaned using the above method. Below is the oven method of cleaning which worked best for me.Oven Method. This is hands-down the easiest and most efficient method, and it’s idiot-proof. Preheat oven to 450°. If your wok has wooden handles, wrap the exposed wood in a damp cloth, and wrap that with a double layer of aluminum foil. Using a paper towel, rub a thin layer of grapeseed or peanut oil inside and outside the wok. Place wok upside-down on oven rack and cook for 60 minutes. Remove from oven, carefully remove foil and cloth (it comes off much easier when hot), and let cool. Feel free to repeat the process to build up the patina.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This Wok is THE. WORST. We received this as a wedding gift off our registry. My husband was really excited about this item in particular, as he loves to make stir fry. However, whatever seal they placed on this wok is completely bogus- you don't know when it's actually off the wok itself (despite following the directions to a t) and its smokes and burns and destroys the bottom of the wok. Not only that, but the seal on the sides is really sticky- and its almost impossible to remove. I thought after continued use, the burn would eventually cook off, but it hasn't and every time we use it, we're just enraged that one of our friends spent their money on a terrible product. Seriously, listen to this review, and the several other warnings and DO NOT BUY. I don't understand how Crate & Barrel is still selling this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The real deal! I love this! I've never use the wok before in my life, I purposely purchase it because it looks so nice and fancy, I learn to cook with it by watching YouTube videos, I just had to purchase it even if I didn't know how to use it. Very well-made!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent but a little wobbly Great looking wok, but unfortunately the shorter handle has become very wobbly and sometimes comes off entirely. It can be very troublesome!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love having a WOK If you like thai or asian cooking, then you need to get this Wok set. It will brown a bit after first use, but this is normal as I have never seen a Wok that is constantly used look like new. The food will taste great. Just follow the instructions for first use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A very difficult wok I went ahead and bought the wok even when most of the reviews here already warned me about the protective coating. After attempting to remove the clear seal, I realized I made a mistake. This wok is indeed very difficult to tell if you have successfully remove the coating. Frustrated, I decided to return the wok. I gave this wok a 3 stars even though I have never cooked food in it because I wanted to give props to the customer services at Crate and Barrel. I can't believe they actually followed up on me and listened to my concern. I was able to return my wok and got a refund in which I'll be using for other Crate and Barrel products. Thank you customer service for caring about your customers!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Before using the wok you will have to remove a plastic coating. I follow the instruction in the booklet exactly. Heat the wok with a small amount of vegetable oil for 3-5 minutes on Medium high heat. It started to burn around 3 minutes, so I scrub the "hot" wok with a sponge and nothing came off. So I went online and read a review on crate and barrel, some one had the exact same problem and someone from crate and barrel replied by saying they should heat it for 10 mins and wipe it off with a with paper towel. Repeat that like 3 times or until the black residue comes off completely. I did all that and the wok is still burnt and black. So we decided to scrub it with salt and lemon, it help but it is still burnt. On top of that the outside bottom of the wok is burnt too. All that work and I can't even use the wok.I bought this Wok awhile back but didn't use it until today, so I can't return it. Now I'm stuck with a burnt useless wok.AGAIN DO NOT BUY THIS WOK!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Set I originally bought this wok set for a friend of mine's wedding. I was at her house when she decided to try it out. It was so easy to use and delivered excellent food that I had to by one for myself!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good product if used correctly It took a lot of work to season it, but it has been great for stir frying. The tools that came with it have come in handy, too. If you're willing to put in the time to season it, it's a good product to have in the kitchen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy! When we tried to burn off the seal as instructed, it left a huge burn on the bottom of the Wok. The house filled with a toxic smell from the burning plastic. Why would you have to cook off a liner? And now we're not sure if it all burned off, so we may be transferring plastic onto our vegetables? Terrible product.
