Saw this lamp & thought it was exactly what I was looking for on either side of my bed. All set to purchase until I read the review from mpetro. I was so disappointed...it didn't seem to be what I thought it was. Some time later I went back & read more reviews & Crate & Barrels response & decided to order the lamps, so glad I did. Very good quality for the price, came in 48 hours of my ordering on line. I'm a happy customer.

Simply wonderful wall sconces
I live in a classic saltbox home. When we remodeled our bedroom, I searched the web and purchased these wall sconces on-line to replace two old brass sconces. I bought these from Crate and Barrel for the sleek and timeless design. I am thrilled with them. They were easy to install and cast a warm glow above our bed. The brushed nickel is attractive and the swing arm is perfect for reading. They were a good value and I highly recommend them.

Great lamp
This lamp is very high quality and well worth every cent of its price (which included separate delivery and tax costs). I have been decorating my house and have bought many items over the internet, so I have ample experience in this area. It arrived the day after it was ordered; it was meticulously and cleanly packed. I was pleasantly surprised about how heavy and solid it is. The cord could be a bit longer but is adequate. I am using it as a living room lamp on an end table, and though this is not a large lamp, it can work there. Sure, you can see the light bulb if standing close to it, but for me, that is not a problem. The shade is slightly wider at the bottom, and is very good quality. Unlike other lamps I have ordered, the lines of all the metal parts are parallel and the nicke finish is impeccable. I have no problems using the rotary on-off switch - the shade does not get in the way of my hand. If this is your style, and goes with your decor, you cannot go wrong with this lamp.

It's a great lamp. I had to adjust the piece that held the lampshade several times to get it to sit flat but I love the look now.

Table Lamp
We were looking for a simple and contemporary lamp that don't look "cheap" and don't cost a lot. This seems to fit the bill, we use this in our offices and it looks pretty professional and works great, it helps finish the look in the office.

Great lamp!
This is a really beautiful lamp! I purchased two of them and they look great on either side of the bed in the master bedroom! And I really like the dimmable feature! Only issue I had was with the lampshades -- one was damaged upon receipt, and they had to send me two more until I found one not damaged. But, customer service was very nice about it, and shipped the new lampshades immediately.

The cord comes out from under the base of the lamp in any direction, so that you CAN make them symmetrical.

mpetro is correct
I was going to buy 2 of these, and saw the review by mpetro (and C&B feedback) posted above, so I decided to go the C&B store downtown to look before I bought. Though the swing-arm does make a full rotation, the rotating piece is the "second" joint -- the "first" joint, connected to the stem, is a fixed elbow (I believe it points to the right as you look at the lamp head-on), and if you want to use them as side-table lamps on the L and R side of a bed with a symmetric look, you can't do it -- I tried unscrewing and disassembling various parts of the lamp while I was in the store and unless you want a very wobbly lamp, you must have the "first" joint point to the right.
It's too bad because they are very very nice looking lamps and the price is great. However, if you only need one, go for it!

Only if you only need 1!
This lamp is so pretty - and exactly what we were looking for on the side tables next to our bed! However, because it only swings in 1 direction, you cannot place 2 of them on either side of a bed/couch/loveseat/etc. and have them look right. You cannot "mirror image" them.
So - it was perfect for 1 side of the bed but, would not swing over the bed on the opposite side of the bed - if that makes sense.
In addition to that - the dimmable compact flourescent lightbulb that it claims to accomodate, DOES NOT fit - they are too large.
I am reluctantly returning these lamps...they simply will not work on either side of the bed...
