A very beautful tea pot
This tea pot, beautiful and gracefully designed by Eva Zeisel, is a joy to have and use daily. This was a wonderful purchase.

Pretty but a disappointment
Unique & beautiful dining set... BUT beware that the plates crack internally (3 out of 6 have cracked; would like a full set but afraid they will keep cracking). The plate doesn't break in half but you can see the crack marks on the top and underside.
These were my wedding registry dinnerware and I love them but for this (large) flaw.

As promised
The best thing is their service. The set was beautifully wrapped, and arrived just fine. Everything was perfect, except for the 4 small bowls, which were "crazed," cracked from the firing process in manufacturing. I called, and Crate and Barrel sent out four new bowls, in perfect condition, telling me to discard the cracked bowls. I am impressed.

check the bottoms
These plates are lovely, elegant, and light weight. Just one word of caution, look at the bottom of the plates. The way they dip the plates in the finishing glaze, sometimes causes the glaze to not fully seal the plates. The first time I washed some of the plates, I noticed a water stain under the glaze. The store exchanged them without problem, but it was a hassle!

Nice style, not for everyday
I registered for these two years ago with the intent to use them as our everyday dishes. At the time, I didn't know anything about the durability of earthenware. Over time, many of the pieces began to craze badly. I recently saw a sign in a C&B store warning that putting these in the dishwasher and in the microwave increases the chances of crazing. Wish I had known this earlier. I love the design, but they are definitely not suitable for everyday use. Be warned...

Great purchase
My husband and I decided to forgo China and instead registered for the Classic Century Dinnerware set. We use it for every occassions-daily use, entertaining (casual or more formal holiday gatherings/dinner parties). The dinnerware is so versatile, we continuously receive compliments on it. We had the dinnerware for over 5 years and it looks new. We've recommended the product to our other friends getting married.

Elegant Setting, Comfortable Price
I LOVE this dinnerware. The design is elegant and unique, and ample sized for portions. The serving pieces that accessorize the dinnerware are always conversation starters; complementary to any meal. The cream color is versatile, it looks great in spring, fall, summer and Holidays. The dinnerware has such a nice architectural flair that you can get away with simple lighting and let the setting be the centerpiece. The only downside is that the pieces are delicate, not recommended for dishwasher, extreme heat, etc.

wedding dishes
I chose these for my wedding dishes because i wanted something for everyday use as i had china already. I love the design and look of these dishes but for everyday use they have suffered several chips. I have bought an additional couple sets to replace chipped pieces since my wedding almost 5 years ago. Lovely, goes with everything, but maybe not great daily use....

Fab Dishes!
I looked at these dishes for years. When I finally needed a new set, I immediately purchased this set. They make for a lovely classic but modern table that can be made to be formal or casual. Fabulous.

Really Like It
I really like the styling of these plates. It is very distinctive -- classic and unconventional at the same time.
We have not had problems with durability; The finish is fine and the chip resistance is at least as good as other stoneware.

Beautiful but poorly made
Like other reviewers, I felt this was my forever dinnerware. I was born the year it was originally released. I took gentle care of it, but serving pieces and bowls chipped and crazed within weeks. Plates shattered at any impact along the edge, whereas other dinnerware, like Johnson Brothers designs, survived even major accidents without a scratch. This is the only commercial dinnerware I have EVER liked, and I am no youngster. But I will give up and collect hand thrown dinnerware unless Royal Stafford does something about the poor quality of this design.

Happy to have it!
I worked at C&B several years ago and never saw this pattern on sale. Bought ours in October and use it everyday. Love how organic it looks, love that it is not your typical bright white. Love the tea cups & saucers. Will buy the bowl and serving pieces this week to catch the sale price.

Elegant and Practical
I have been married for 38 years and was born the year these dishes were designed. I have gone thru more sets of dinnerware than I can even recall. Not because I break them, but because I like to change things up now and then. So I buy small quantities of the dishes and patterns and pieces that I like and it makes life interesting not being confined to one thing all the time. I love the dinner plates of this set so much that time after time I would just look at them but for some reason, never purchase. Well I finally purchased 6 plates. They are lovely. But I mixed them with the Murano Soup bowls just to make things more fun and interesting. The subtle difference in color and finish adds interest and work very well together.. These plates hold up just fine, are practical for everyday use and elegant enough to use for special occasions. I was told that these plates were ok for the dishwasher but not in the microwave. That is ok by me and so far, that has worked. Whatever you own, you should care for properly. The problems that others have had may well be. If so, then these fine pieces are not for you and a less obvious finish might be better. But by no means are these dishes not worthy. I have had no problems with cracking or chipping. I have enjoyed each and every use.

Love this stuff
I've been wanting this dinnerware for the past 30 years. My parents had it, and I've never seen anything like it. We got it when C&B first started carrying it (12 place settings plus most serving pieces). We put it in the dishwasher and have had no problems with glaze, chipping etc., or with fitting the plates in. It actually seems pretty durable, since my daughter, who is a bit uncoordinated, does most of the dishes and hasn't chipped this stuff.
I will say that the bowls on the original set are a good bit deeper, which I'd prefer. Also, there are several serving pieces with the original set that don't seem to have been redone, including a larger platter or two, and some dishes that don't have that silly foot. The dinner plates aren't bigger than the originals, since my mom has a mix and they just stack right up with no size difference.
Also, the sauce boat is beautiful, but somehow it is very hard to see if it's level, and also hard to carry level, so if well-filled, people seem to spill some all the time. Just be forewarned.

Lovely collection of dinnerware. Note that the dishes may appear very white in the picture but are actually more of an off white tone.

So pretty.. so not practical
I love the way these pieces look. Unfortunately the dinner plates are huge. Due to their irregular form and size they do not fit in my standard size dishwasher unless they are placed perfectly and there is nothing else on the bottom rack. We just got them for a wedding gift in May 2010 and already two of them are ruined. I am hand washing them from now on. I wish they would re-issue the dinner plates in a size that would work in a dishwasher. Also the bottoms of all the coffee mugs arrived w small chips and I don't foresee those lasting too long either. The bowls, salad plates and serving pieces are doing fine.

Beautiful but lacking
I don't own these yet, I've just been searching for dinnerware. I fell in love with this set online, but when I went into the store, all the pieces were a bit smaller than I expected, which becomes a problem for me specifically with the bowl. I want a slightly larger bowl to eat soup from, and it would be difficult to pick up a bowl from another pattern to fit in with this set since the color and shape of this collection is so unique. If anyone has any ideas of what to mix this with, I'd love to hear it, as this set really is gorgeous.

I love these!!!
My husband and I registered for this set for our wedding. We've had them for 2 years now and we still love them. I had to replace a couple of plates and bowls due to a move and got broken, but the others have held up very well and the look is so classic.

Classic Century Dinnerware wonderful
I have had this beautiful product for 3 years and love love it. I am always so proud to use it. Everytime I put it out people tell me how beautiful it is. I have put it into the dishwasher many times and it always comes out perfectly. I love the styling of each of the many pieces I have and the quality is perfect. I have never put it into water to let it soak for a long time because I know that is not good for this type of product. I always use the dishwsher. I have been thrilled with this beautiful dinnerware. I recommend it very highly. If you buy it you will love it and be very proud of it.

shocked!
I am shocked by these bad reviews because I can not disagree more! I love this set of dishes and have not one of the problems listed. I have used these dishes everyday for 3 years, put them in the dishwasher and have been rough on them. Not one of my dishes are cracked, chipped or has a "glaze problem". With the exception of one dinner plate that I dropped on my kitchen floor and that was my fault. I do not use the mugs everyday only for dinner parties and have no problems with them. I even put the serving dishes in the dishwasher with no problems. I bought my set May 2007...maybe that was a good year?
