The Story

Inspired by the Bauhaus school movement, this simply beautiful teapot was designed in 1931 for the Arzberg porcelain factory in Germany. It's a classic that's as fresh today as it was the day when a young high school teenager by the name of Gordon Segal first bought the teapot as a birthday gift for his mother who loved making tea in the afternoons. When he grew up and opened the very first Crate and Barrel store in Chicago with his wife in 1962, he bought it again. And again. And again. Today, over 45 years later, Arzberg continues to be one of our most popular, all-time classics. Perfect proportions, beautiful central shape, exquisite white porcelain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I asked for this as a birthday gift last year, and I am so glad that I did. I think the story behind the design of the teapot is one of the reasons that I feel that it has become one of my prized possessions. I don't think it would be true to the original design, but it would be great if a diffuser basket could be added for loose leaf tea! That would make it absolutely perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely little teapot! We bought our first teapot while on honeymoon in the Lake District, UK. 25 years and some chips in the spout later, our beautiful English teapot needed replacing, and this little honey fit the bill so that we can once again enjoy a nice spot of tea together. Only wish it came in other colors. Bliss!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully Simple and Possibly Indestructible I replaced my previous teapot with the Arzberg teapot. I have "lost" many teapots to a broken lid. After accidentally dropping the lid to this porcelain teapot, it bounced off my ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and was completely intact...not even chipped! Quality product made in Germany.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where are the matching cups? I concur that this is a pot of classic beauty. I recently saw an exhibit of Arzberg porcelain in the Grassi Museum in Leipzig, and it included white teacups matching this pot. I thought how nice it would be to find them to go with the pot.
