Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but a little wonky We purchased two of the Leaning Bookcases in cobalt blue. Aesthetically speaking, they are super sleek and just beautiful. The color looks fantastic against our dark floors and light walls. It tucks in nicely in a little corner area we have, and there is plenty of space to put our DVDs, vases, photos, etc.Our only qualm about this is that there is a small rubber "sticker" that goes on the bottom of the shelf to keep it from sliding or falling since the bookshelf is meant to lean on the wall... unfortunately, the sticker doesn't do much. Every few weeks, we notice that the either one of the shelves (or both) have started sliding away from the wall so we have to shove it back in. We'll probably have to get a larger pad or something for it to remedy it and it doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish Product The Good:I purchased 4 of the Sloane grey leaning bookcase units after looking at great length for shelving for my unusual-sized areas. My only other options were pre-fab shelving that didn't fit well, or for custom built shelving that was out of my price range. These are sturdy, stylish units that look great in my place. Delivery was prompt and courteous. Attractive price point, too.The Neutral:Figure an hour per unit for one person to unpack, sort out packing materials for recycling, and build...unless you need to disassemble and rebuild if you get the shelves facing the wrong way. Then it's 1.5 hours. The instructions were written by someone for whom English is a first language, which is a good thing. Don't expect the instructions to help you with the direction of the shelves with regard to the slant... you're on your own there. I suggest you observe verrrry carefully how the bottom slant is constructed when it's time to start screwing shelves together. And though it's easy enough for one person to assemble the units, it'll take a second person to help with the final bracketing and installation. The Point where there's room for improvement:After assembly I was shocked by the volume of packing material left for disposal. From 4 units I had2 - 13 gallon trash bags of styrofoam (unrecyclable),1 - 13 gallon trash bag of foam wrapping material (unrecyclable),6 square feet of 1/4" plywood (unrecyclable), anda large pile of carboard (recyclable).Sure wish Crate & Barrel would commit to a larger percentage of recyclable packing materials. I checked with my city, and though this LA suburb recycles a lot of things, it doesn't recycle plastic foam or scrap wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! My husband and I are in the process of re-decorating/re-furnishing our apartment and we came accross the Sloane Leaning Bookcase while browsing the website one day. We went into the store to see it first hand and loved it so we ordered two of them. We got them home and they were really easy to put together. Once we got them all set up, we loved them even more. The dark grey color combined with the overall look is very contemporary. We also love the fact that all of the shelves are open air so it doesn't really feel like we have a big ole bookcase intruding on our living room. The shelves are very sturdy too. We would absolutely recommend these to anyone looking to get them. And the great thing is we can build on them later in life with the desk or wine bar :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matte Finish We purchashed this bookshelf after we bought the matching bar. We loved the color and look of the bar and had another place we could put the shelf. The store shows them grouped together and other friends have them grouped, but we love ours across the room from each other! Great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for a small apartment love this item. bought 2 for a 7 foot wall in a 12 foot square living room. the stepping back makes its presence in the room not so overwhelming and makes it's projection not so close to the window. really opens up the space while still providing the upwards storage you need in a small space.also LOVE the grey finish. very classy and modern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Leaning Bookcase Love this bookcase. My husband and I were looking to get one of those "leaning book shelves" & I had always had this one in the back of my mind.It was very easy to assemble, really well done instructions, from what I remember. Couldn't ask for anything more when it comes to a shelf unit, instruction detail and all. Get what you pay for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so easy to assemble I've seen reviews saying that this bookcase is easy to assemble. I disagree. I normally don't have trouble assembling furniture, but the instructions (both with the product and from the store) were inadequate. The instructions said to work on the right rail first, but there was no marking as to which was the right rail and it wasn't self-evident. The rails are not interchangeable.I also was told at the store that the box contained all I needed for assembly. This was wrong. While there was the necessary Allen wrench in the box, the instructions referred to the need for a phillips head screwdriver and a drill (to secure the bookcase to the wall). I was installing the bookcase for my daughter and fortunately brought the screwdriver. I did not have my drill with me, however. The bookcase looks very nice, but having proper instructions from the store and in the written materials would have been even nicer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit! This bookshelf & the coordinating desk are exactly what I needed in my small space - necessary storage without a lot of bulk. Love the grey color - something different from the typical brown or black but still neutral enough to coordinate with other pieces. Assembly was fairly easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and Useful While building our living room, my girlfriend and I were trying to keep our furniture open (to keep the room from feeling cramped) but have a classic feel, with dark woods. These leaning book cases were perfect, especially since as bibliophiles, we needed multiple bookcases to hold all of our books. These are affordable, easy to put together and look great. Definitely highly recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheaper than expected For the price, I shouldn't have expected it to be perfect, but I guess I wish it was a little more sturdy. Our shelves are falling apart and we just got the bookshelf 9 months ago. When we originally received the item, we received one wrong piece, so make sure you check that out before you assemble the whole thing! I have the matching bar and love that - but this wasn't what I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Great! I purchased this to hold picture frames in my dining room. It was fairly simple to assemble once I figured out which way the shelves hang out. It looks absolutely fabulous and is really sturdy. It comes with an attachment to mount to the wall, but I don't think that's really necessary unless you have small children who are prone to pull things. Wonderful purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Bookcases! I purchased two of these bookcases and absolutely adore them. I have them on both sides of my TV stand to create an entertainment center. I get compliments all the time! Crate and Barrel also has some great accessories to display on the shelves! I was also surprised at how easy these were too assemble myself. I did both of them in about an hour.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks Good, Poor Quality This bookshelf looks great...from a distance. Almost immediately after assembling it and putting it up, the wood chipped on one of the shelves. After a few months, I started noticing more a few more chips here and there as I was cleaning it. I love the look of the bookshelf, but the chipped pieces look tacky up close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for Recently bought a set of Sloan grey leaning bookshelves after spending a bit of time looking for just what I wanted - this was it. Staff at C&B was very helpful and I picked the bookshelves up at the Michigan Ave store with no difficulty and the assembly was easy. May need to go back and buy a few more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish bookcase Great bookcase, easy to assemble and very stylish. Was also impressed how well CB packed everything. Bookcase arrived in perfect condition. Just be aware that you need to put some heavier books on the bottom shelf to stabilize it. I don't think it would tip over otherwise, but just to be sure.
