The Story

Heat-resistant to 800 degrees, this reversible ceramic stone is a natural for grilling or baking crispy pizza or tortillas. Reversible stone has a ribbed side for burgers, steaks and poultry. Even heat distribution cooks without hotspots, duplicating the effect of a brick-lined pizza oven. Season stone by lightly coating the surface with vegetable oil. The more the stone is used, the more seasoned it will become, enhancing the flavor of foods and developing non-stick properties. With use, the stone will darken naturally over time. Cleaning it with hot water and a grill brush while still hot will preserve the seasoning; a more thorough cleaning with hot water and soap or in the dishwasher will require re-seasoning with vegetable oil spray.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for pizza lovers I have used this pizza stone a couple times now and definitely prefer it to just using a pizza pan. It works better if you use cornmeal to dust the surface before putting the dough on as this keeps the pizza from sticking.

When I first used the pizza stone, I was surprised by how much better the pizza was. The crust was crispy while the inside was soft and it was the perfect pizza! I really like this particular pizza stone because one side is flat for pizzas and the other side is ribbed to cook chicken, salmon, etc.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful. I have used this stone to make pizzas twice now. The first time, it stuck to the side with the grill lines. Naturally, I flipped it and used the flat side the second time. BOTH time, it stuck and ruined the pizzas. This is my least favorite item that I've ever purchased at crate and barrel. I would not recommend it.

However, it makes for excellent crust - nice and crispy on the outside, but still soft and bready on the inside. I could tell a definite improvement in consistency over baking pizza on an oven rack or cookie sheet. It also bakes very evenly. Great purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gift! We were given this as a wedding gift. It was wrapped up with a pizza cookbook, cutting wheel and some yummy sauces. It made for a really cute and personalized gift. I've had a stone before, but this one is much better. It has a ribbed side for more cooking options and we have actually used it for cooking our pizza. The key is to sprinkle the surface with cornmeal or flour. Then you put the dough on the hot stone and cook for a few minutes. When you take it out be sure to brush it with a little olive oil and then top as you like. This helps the crust stay crispy and cooks it all the way. I love my pizza stone and look forward to making more fun and interactive meals with it! Great for a date night with the husband! :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pizza dough sticking to stone To the person who wrote in with this problem, make sure that your dough is floured and your stone dry before placing the raw dough on the hot stone. Or, you can try sprinkling cornmeal all over the stone just prior to placing raw pizza on the hot stone. Prevents sticking and makes a nice, crispy crust. Have fun!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sticky dough Before using the stone, put the dough straight on the grill for about 60 seconds a side. Then take it off and add your toppings and sauce. Now put in on the stone and the dough won't stick. Grills up nice

After we made a pizza or two, we noticed that it was soaking up grease from the cheese or oil from the dough, and it doesn't really come off well...so we don't really use it anymore because it just looks gross...
