Overview
In this grand-scaled yet intricate composition of layered rope-like impressions, Elvia Perrin uses an engraving process known as intaglio, in which an image is incised into a plate so that an impression from the design yields an image in relief. Using multiple printing plates, she overlays shadowy strands of elongated ovals with a tangle of inky black that unwinds in a gestural, curving line. The rich tones of the original print are beautifully captured in a giclée reproduction printed on deckle-edged paper and floated on a neutral mat framed under glass in matte black.
