Terrible finish reveals marks
These chairs reveal every mark imaginable. Any time I or a guest sits on the chair, scratches appear all over the chairs when they get up. Any dark wash jean reveals color stains on the chairs even if the indigo has long been washed out or the jeans don't have indigo stain. Any jeans that have any buttons on the pockets (metal and plastic) scratch the chairs above and beyond any other white or black chairs I have ever owned. You can't even put your hands on the chair in fear a ring or watch will leave a big scratch on the back of the chair. I can't wash the scratches off. They had this same problem with the matching table, until enough people complained about the finish that Crate and Barrel refinished that table with a better finish. The chairs need this same "new" refinish if Crate and Barrel wants to keep their customers happy. I'm not one to exaggerate, but everything I said is true. I'm looking to find seat covers or hoping Crate and Barrel will allow me to return my chairs or refinish them with a better polyurethane. I gave two stars just because the chairs are very functional and well designed.

Good
After having these chairs and the Avalon table for two years I have found the chairs have stood up very well to a baby/toddler and a very heavy handed 2/4 year old. The Avalon table has not the top looks hideously scratched and rubbed, I have just organized to have it painted and it is going to cost $375 but I figure the table is solid and I would rather get it painted properly than pay for a new table with a cheap finish. The paint started flaking a couple of weeks in. Buy only if you accept younwill have to repaint! I have never purchased anything else from c&b since.

Love them
I love these chairs. I have 4 year old triplets that trashed my last chairs. These are very sturdy and easy to wipe off. I also like the fact they are a true white not antique and are smaller size so can easily fit around my table.
