Create Jenny Yolo’s Vintage-Inspired Pennant from Her Camp-Themed Playroom
Jenni Yolo, the brains behind I Spy DIY never ceases to amaze us with her inspiring and creative spirit. Her latest project: renovating a historic barnhouse from 1875 (not a typo!) that’s as charming as it sounds. She converted its 250-square-foot attic into the ultimate camp-themed playroom, brimming with nostalgic charm, a dose of yesteryear and a sprinkle of Wes Anderson. Every detail is more adorable than the next, including her charming DIY pennant. Here, Jenni walks us through how to create this easy and fun craft.

Let’s go step-by-step through the process of creating a DIY pennant:
1. To begin, you can either cut your pennant out of felt or use a thrifted pennant. I sourced this yellow one, which was the perfect color for the space, and just flipped it over to customize the back side. If you’re totally DIYing it, just draw a long triangle shape on your felt and cut it out.
2. Next, trace the pennant on another piece of sticker felt or plain felt. This will be the color you want for the letters.
3. Draw letters between the lines you traced. I like to use chalk so you can wipe away mistakes with a little water.
4. Cut out your letters, then position them in place. The letters can be trimmed if necessary.
5. If you used sticker felt, pull off the backing of the letters and stick them to the pennant. If your felt isn’t adhesive, use craft glue or hot glue.
6. Using felt of other colors, cut out trees, a tent, a sun or any symbol of your choosing to make it your own!
7. If you’re making your own pennant from scratch, cut strips of felt to create the little ribbons and attach them on the wide end of your pennant.
You did it!
