1. Create functional zones for a good flow.
Changing table station. Keep a diaper caddy near the changing table so diapers, wipes and changing essentials are within arm’s reach. Store extra diapers and a few changes of clothing in a separate basket or bin, and place a diaper pail and laundry hamper nearby.
Clothing rotation. Keep only current-sized clothing in rotation—store in top dresser drawers or front of closet. This makes it easy when grabbing a new outfit in a hurry. Store future-use items in the back of the closet or bottom dresser drawers.
Create a special bedtime zone. Keep bedtime routine essentials close to the crib, and create a soothing bedtime area by placing a rocking chair or glider, small lamp and books nearby.
2. The bin life. Learn it, live it, love it.
So, have you heard of these things called bins? Just kidding. Storage bins are not exactly new news, but you can take your bin game to next-level organized if you sort and label bins that are in heavy rotation. This can be as basic or detailed as your heart desires! A few ideas are sorting and labeling clothes by size (3-6, 6-9, 9-12 months) or by type (socks, onesies, hats, etc).
Toys and books can also be easily sorted by age range or type of play. And don’t forget to have fun making labels! Break out the label maker, create pretty hand-lettered labels, or whip up cute printables.
3. Use stylish baskets that double as room decor.
We love using stylish floor baskets to store blankets, stuffed animals and small playtime items. Baskets serve as functional storage while adding pops of color, texture and style to the nursery. Bonus: they can be toted to other rooms—perfect for taking playtime on the road (aka the living room).
4. Use stackable storage bins to keep clutter away.
From too-big clothing to future baby gear or gifted big kid toys—durable, stackable storage bins are the perfect way to neatly stow away items you need, but just don’t need right now.
5. Short on space? Go vertical!
This universal rule of small space storage is also applicable to the nursery. If your room’s footprint is limited, we suggest using available wall space. Consider wall-mounted shelving or modular storage systems to maximize storage without minimizing room space.
