Set the scene

The first step toward creating your romantic island getaway is to organize any decorative items you have that suit your “destination,” and order small add-ons to complete the scene. Create a tropical centerpiece for your table using fresh pineapple, papaya, bananas and vibrant citruses. Set your table using beachy dinnerware paired with colorful tiki mugs. Decorate the rest of your space with palm leaves, seashells and floral leis. Lastly, turn on some reggae music, dress up in beach attire, and adjust your thermostat to a tropical temp.

Make the proper cocktail

Begin your evening in your tropical paradise with a colorful Blue Hawaiian cocktail in your hand. To make one, in a blender, combine rum, pineapple juice, Blue Curaçao, and sweet and sour mix. Or make a Bahama Mama with dark rum, pineapple and lime juices, coconut rum and a splash of grenadine. Have fun garnishing with artfully skewered slices of your favorite tropical fruits. And, of course, top your drinks off with brightly colored paper parasols!

Taste the local cuisine

If your honeymoon destination happens to be the vibrant city of Cancun, start your night off with homemade guacamole with the sweet hint of diced mango. For the main course, serve pork carnitas and fish tacos topped with a cilantro-lime slaw. And let’s not forget dessert! Satisfy your sweet tooth with churros served with a warm chocolate dipping sauce.

Have a themed movie night

Once dinner is over, slide into comfy clothes, light an ocean breeze-scented candle and get cozy on the couch for a themed movie night. Turn on your favorite beachy rom-com, which must include a luau, Hawaiian shirts and, of course, romance.
