Crate and Kids: Tell us about a time you’ve felt very proud working towards your cause.
Jahkil Jackson: I would say it's every day, it's not a specific time. I’m always feeling good about helping people. I feel proud all the time of what I'm doing but I know that there are so many more people to help.
Our Design Experts created a work and study nook for Jahkil, complete with our Large Charcoal Adjustable Kids Desk and Acrylic Desk Chair with Gold Base.
Crate and Kids: What is a future goal you're excited about achieving?
Jahkil Jackson: A future goal for this year is 17,000 blessing bags. I also want to accomplish starting tiny homes for those in need, and eventually, demolishing homelessness. I know it sounds like a humongous goal, it sounds impossible but hopefully, in the future, I can influence other people to help me make it possible.
Crate and Kids: What other forms of activism have you found yourself interested in and why are you passionate about them?
Jahkil Jackson: I am also passionate about anti-bullying. I actually created a whole book about it. The book is called I Am and it's about my experience through sixth and seventh grade with bullying. I wanted to help other kids get through that tough time who may be dealing with something similar. I decided to write the book during the summer of 2020. I published it, and it became a bestseller!
Jahkil first helped his aunt feed people without homes when he was just five years old. Three years later he started his nonprofit Project I Am, which serves unhoused people.
Crate and Kids: What's one thing you urge people to do to help?
Jahkil Jackson: To be more mindful of the situations and circumstances going on throughout the world, including homelessness. Try to get out of your comfort zone or the bubble that you have and think about bigger things than yourself or what you're experiencing. Even if school isn’t teaching you about it, research it.
Crate and Kids: How are you going to use your new space for Project I Am?
Jahkil Jackson: I'm going to use this space a lot for Project I Am and a lot of other things I'm going to be doing. I will be filming a lot of videos down here, might do some packing parties and invite some friends down here. I could do a lot of things down here.
We set up this laid-back lounging area with our Contour Swivel Lounge Chair, Multi Scattered Checks Washable Wool Shag Rug and, for a spark of inspiration, topped it off with our LED Lightning Bolt Wall Light.
Crate and Kids: How do you think your new room can help you to be creative or motivated in your work?
Jahkil Jackson: This room as you can see is very colorful. It's very creative itself. Just being in this environment will help me be creative. If I'm struggling with coming up with an idea, I can use this room to help spark something new.
