Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I've been using the Oto salt and pepper mills for almost 2 years. I love fresh ground pepper. There is a huge difference between fresh ground and regular pepper shaker pepper. I think the crank on top is easier to use than most pepper mills. The barrel is plastic, which is good because I tend to knock them over (they're tall and thin), and it still looks great. I have had no problems with this grinder and love it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Halved Peppercorns The Otto Pepper Mill will not perform a find grind. Turned clockwise, the peppercorns are chopped in half. Turned counter-clockwise, the corns are still chopped in half but the rate is much slower. Not satisfied.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow output I really like the look of these salt and pepper grinders. However, the salt dispenses salt so rapidly that we have to warn guests. The pepper on the other hand, grinds such small amounts at a time, that we're often asked if the grinder is broken. We've switched them to see if that would help and it did not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Design, Great Function My wife bought me the Otto salt and pepper mills as a present on her recent visit to the States. As a hobby chef, I use these great gadgets in the kitchen virtually daily and love the way they feel in the hand -- a sturdy grip, not too small and a good output of grind, which I adjust using the knob on top of the mill.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pepper not Fine The pepper mill does not grind finely. I returned it once and the new one ground the peppercorns the same. Crate&Barrel returned both salt and pepper mills without any issues. I exchanged them for the Peugeot® Nancy Acrylic Salt & Pepper Mills. They work great. There is a little salt and pepper dust that falls out on the counter, but nothing that is too bothersome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not grind very small I purchased both the salt & pepper grinder. Otherwise, I would have thought that this was defective. It doesn't really grind the peppercorns and leaves large pieces of peppercorn in your food. For salt, this can work for cooking because the large pieces of salt can dissolve. But for pepper, it's just unpleasant. I have tried cleaning out the mechanism and I have tried tightening the top and nothing helps. I wish I would have returned this item immediately.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Mechanism Love the cranking mechanism as opposed to twisting

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not grind well at all My brother bought my wife and I this grinder set (salt and pepper) since he liked the style and knew we needed something for our kitchen. At first glance, the style is nice however lacks functionality. The crank is awkward and does not grind the pepper at all but rather splits them in half and leaves large chunks of peppercorns. In reading a similar review, we tried cranking it backward upside-down to clear out the grinding gears but to no avail. This should really be discontinued as the product lacks functionality and only provides a terrible customer experience with a company whose other products we enjoy thoroughly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice My husband loved these so we put them on our registry, then when my parents can to visit my dad loved them so much that I'm getting them for him for xmas. They work great, you really have to make sure the top is screwed on tight otherwise it won't grind as well. I took off a star because the salt leaks a little bit, not nearly as much as my old grinders but enough to leave a small ring on the table cloth.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not woth the money I had these (the Otto Salt & Pepper Mills) on my wedding registry. I found them online and didn't see them until I got them. I was first disappointed that the clear part is not glass, it's plastic. I still liked the look of them so I kept them, but they are just not good quality. You can't go two turns of the mill without it jamming and it doesn't really grind the peppercorns but just kind of spits it out. I am very disappointed with the product and don't recommend. For the money, there are much better quality and nice looking options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality and stylish It's a little expensive for a pepper mill, but it's worth it! It's functional for everyday cooking, and stylish enough to put on the table.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from mill milieu Compared to other all metal Turkish-style mills, this one seems a bit slight, and unfortunately, top-heavy, thanks to the light-weight plastic cylinder and metal hardware at the crank. It does not seem to effect performance, though take care not to knock it over.
