The Story

It was the most familiar furniture shape of the 1960s. And now it's coming back to a living room near you. This time around, it has tufted and buttoned cushions for a more classic, tailored look that sits deep and firm, but lets you slouch in comfort. It's brave enough to make a comeback in white, thanks to a new stain-repellant system that's actually in each fiber. Petrie is authentically styled light and lean with slim top-stitched track arms and trim hardwood legs stained a dark ebony finish called deco. Sectional also available.

After you place your order, we will send a fabric swatch via next day air for your final approval. We will contact you to verify both your receipt and approval of the fabric swatch before finalizing your order.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a review, but a question Dear C&B: please answer me!All over the internet purchasers of the Petrie complain about the same things: the buttons poking, the buttons falling off and the cushions not standing up to even a minimal test of time.I wish C&B would ADDRESS these concerns with a design change and/or some commentary. The ONLY reason I have not purchased this sofa is due to those consistent complaints I have read on your site and other sites discussing sofas. It's gorgeous, but sofas are like spouses - you kinda need to know they are going to be around and you will still like them for a lot of years.Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from repeat performance I bought the petrie and two chairs about 8 years ago. It has held up to two kids, two black labs and lots of socializing, eating, drinking and general real life. But now, it has flattened out and has faded from the sun so it is time to go. The style is great and perfect for my mid-century modern home so after eight years I decided to replace it with the same thing in a different color. It was delivered today and I have to say that it is beautiful and comfortable and I am so happy with the color and quality. I never had any problems with the buttons that people are complaining about. It is remarkable how much the cushions have flattened out but at this price point you really can't expect furniture to last forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS COUCH I love the way it looks in my living room, its so classy and comfortable! I got it in white and i keep it pretty clean, we have a dog and she is not allowed on it. I say you should sit on it if you are clean and always wash your hands after you eat before you sit on it. Its made very well, also made in the USA which is great too. I say go check it out in the store and buy it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality couch I bought this couch from Crate and Barrel expecting a very high quality item. I've had this couch for just over two months and already the stitching is coming out of one of the cushions. I sit on the couch every day, but I am not a big person. I weight 135 pounds and there is no reason the cushion should be coming apart already. Had I known this might happen I would not have bought the couch.Crate and Barrel is sending someone to fix it, but I thought this would be a couch I could have for years without issues. I'm very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just don't sit on it A year after owning the Petrie Sofa, the white pillows are showing a grey-blue discoloration where people sit. We called Crate & Barrell and were told that it's from people wearing jeans, which has stunned us since all our jeans have been washed dozens of times. When buying the sofa in white we were told it is stain resistant and easy to clean. In addition to the discoloration, one of the pillows has a seam that is coming open. We rarely use the sofa because it's in the formal living room, and are surprised how fast it is showing signs of wear and tear even when it's hardly in use. It's a pretty sofa, just don't sit on it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable & a dirt magnet I've had this sofa for 2 years now and I hate it. Like other reviewers, I have problems with the cushions and the buttons making sitting on the couch totally uncomfortable. This started within 2 months of getting the couch. Additionally, the weave on the couch makes it a dirt magnet. I can't seem to get it clean. I know this couch is gorgeous -- but I beg you not to buy this couch. It's just not worth it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Cushions This couch's cushions are so poorly constructed. After a month or two, the buttons really bother you. I removed the buttons from the seat cushions which alleviated this problem slightly. After a year, the cushions were completely flat. I had to purchase quilt stuffing to try to add some fluff. I also added a down quilt underneath the cushions for more support, but honestly, I am already looking to purchase a new sofa.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from i hate this couch We've had our Petrie for about two years now and I hate this couch. This is our second Petrie. The first one we received, the cushions didn't have enough stuffing causing the buttons to stick out whenever you sat down for any length of time. This would become uncomfortable very quickly. Even after you got up, the cushions wouldn't "bounce back" to its original fullness, so the button would just kinda lay there on its side completely sticking out. I can't tell you how often I was tempted to just cut them off. So one day while the wife and I were shopping at Crate and Barrel picking out our bedroom set, I casually mentioned the problems we were having with the cushions. The salesman was kind enough to exchange the couch for us even though we had it for about 3 weeks. The new couch's cushions were much fuller than the first couch. The buttons didn't stick out at first but.... we still had the same problems after a few weeks. I chalk it up to the buttons not being taut enough or the cushions not full enough. I may cut off these buttons and just be done with it.After about 2 years of ownership with the new couch, I've been experiencing back problems like never before. The cushions squish down flat as a pancake except the very sides of the couch where the armrests are. This creates an uneven seat. There doesn't seem to be any support whatsoever from the seat and the back cushions anymore. It would probably be more comfortable sitting on the floor against the wall than sitting on this couch cause then at least there wouldn't be any buttons sticking up into your butt. Buttons are popping up everywhere. I hate the buttons.i cannot recommend not getting this couch enough. I hate this couch. HATE HATE HATE. I feel like I've wasted 1500 dollars on a couch that barely lasted two years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK sofa but not for every day I have Petrie sofa in white for approximately 3 years. The sofa is well made and has held up with time, however, the first 2 years we lived in a big house and this sofa was occupying a room, but we have not used it often. Since we moved and made this our main sofa, I started being disappointed with it. When you sit on this sofa, the buttons start really poking you in the butt, and it is uncomfortable. It still looks really nice and we are being careful around it, but it is showing discomfort with regular use. This sofa is great for looks, but that's about it... buy yourself something comfy so you can kick back, relax, maybe fall asleep... buy yourself a regular sofa -there are plenty out there... then you can buy some original art for your room and you'll have style without sacrificing comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love My Couch Not only is this sofa very stylish and versatile for a variety of design aesthetics and palettes, but it is INCREDIBLY comfortable, well-made, and stain resistant. In my first week of owning this sofa, I had an overnight guest sleep on it (happily) and spill olive tapenade on it (which all came out). I cannot be happier with the Petrie. It is stylish, but liveable, comfortable, but modern. It's almost impossible to find a stylish sofa that is also functional, and if you're in that boat, look no further than the Petrie.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy but uncomfortable I bought this sofa seven years ago. I don't know what I was thinking, but I bought the Ivory color. It has really discolored, and I've had it steamed cleaned with no results. Also, the cushions went flat. Otherwise, the frame is very sturdy, no squeaks when I sit. This sofa is for someone who values fashion over comfort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Design is great, but don't get white! I bought this couch almost 3 years ago. I still adore the style of it, but absolutely regret getting it in white. Immediately, the edges of the cushions got dingy looking from dark wash jeans rubbing off on it. We ended up putting a blanket over the bottom which really ruins the look of the couch. After years of regretting the color, we decided to buy the same couch in graphite instead (it would have cost way more to reupholster - we checked!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful couch I bought this couch about 2 years ago and was a little worried about buying a white couch. I have a white persian cat who's eyes drip constantly and sleeps on the couch. I wipe it with water and it comes right off. Also has been great with milk and even popsicles. I love this couch and so does everyone who sits on it. Also when I got it there was a small flaw and Crate and Barrel said that the new cushion might not match and replaced the whole couch. I go to Crate and Barrel often and love all of my purchases and service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from time tested We bought this sofa five years ago. I really wanted the white but worried about how it would hold up. The stain-resistant treatment on the fabric convinced me and I'm glad I took the plunge. We now have a toddler and even with him around there are still no stains to worry about. We had it professionally cleaned once and the material shows no signs of wear from that either. So if you want a white couch, just go with it.
