We love a mix-and-match taco party. A DIY taco bar is always a crowd pleaser, and a DIY lazy Susan taco bar ensures all of the delicious ingredients are within reach of all of your guests. Here are a few of our favorite taco tips and tricks:

To save time, buy about 2 cups of pulled pork ready made from a local barbecue restaurant or butcher, or just use your favorite recipe.

For steak tacos, use about ½ lb. hanger steak prepared with your favorite Mexican-inspired rub, grill on a high heat until medium-rare and cut against the grain into ¼-inch strips.

For a great vegan option, marinate one block of firm tofu cut into ¼-inch slices in lime juice, olive oil, cilantro and garlic for at least 30 minutes. Add chili powder, salt and pepper and grill on a grill pan on a medium heat until blackened in spots, brushing occasionally with the marinade. (Tofu is best when the water has been pressed out of it before marinating. Do so by placing tofu between two plates with a 3–5 lb. weight on top for about 30 minutes, until all the excess water has been expelled, then slice.)

We love the Ortega box of hard and soft tacos, which is great for a party of 6.

  • ½ lb. grilled hanger steak, grilled
  • Marinated tofu, grilled Red cabbage, shredded Green cabbage, shredded
  • Red chilis, thinly sliced
  • Jalapeños, thinly sliced
  • Colorful cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Colorful radishes, thinly sliced in rounds
  • Tomatillo salsa or salsa of your choice
  • Guacamole
  • Cilantro
  • Crema
  • Spicy mayo
  • Hot sauce of your choice
  • Cucumber spears sprinkled with Tajín or chili powder, lime and salt
  • Corn and flour soft and hard shell tortillas of your choice (we used 1 box Ortega hard and soft tacos)
  • Lime wedges

  1. Gather the taco fillings and toppings that you’d like to serve.
  2. Arrange bowls and plates of ingredients on a lazy Susan and let guests build the tacos of their dreams. Encourage them to start with a tortilla and end with the squeeze of a lime wedge—everything in between is up to them.
