Ready to make your own hanging pampas grass centerpiece? We love this idea for smaller dining rooms—you still get the beauty of a centerpiece but without sacrificing surface area on your dining table. Or, hang it in your entryway to welcome guests with a design-forward statement.
How to Make a Hanging Pampas Grass Centerpiece
We just love the look of a hanging pampas grass centerpiece. It promises all the flair of traditional styles—but with the added drama of being suspended midair. We asked our stylist Hilary Robertson how she created this design, made with just two materials: chicken wire and pampas grass. Here’s the step-by-step.
Step 1. Roll a piece of roughly 2'x4' chicken wire about four times to form a loose cylindrical shape. Use wire clippers to trim excess wire.
Step 2. Adhere three to four small self-adhesive hooks to your ceiling. Hang the wire frame using string or clear wire.
Step 3. Add pampas grass stems in any direction or configuration you want. Keep it spare, or fill out the whole frame. The look is up to you.
Pro tip: To keep natural pampas grass from shedding, shake each reed outdoors first to remove any loose pieces. Once you’ve assembled your centerpiece, spray it generously with a high-hold hairspray. This will help keep the reeds in place.
